This is about Canada, but I bet the situation is not much different in many other Western countries!
If politicians were good at running businesses, they would be entrepreneurs not politicians!
Keep in mind you the taxpayers are paying for it! What do you get in return for it?
You could e.g. invest your hard earned money in the business of your choosing if taxes were lower.
The best subsidy for businesses is low government taxation, a minimum necessary equally applied and well working government regulation and legal system and land use policies.
