Measuring Progressivity in Canada’s Tax System, 2024: Top 20% of Canadian income-earning families pay 54% of all taxes

The charts for other Western countries most likely look very similar!

So next time, you here someone claiming something like the rich are not paying their fair share ...

Or who is exploiting who? And sometimes you have to vote with your feet if the tax burden becomes unbearable or minimize your taxable income!

Image of the day

The grand injustice of progressive income taxation! This is what I call inequity!

What this chart also clearly shows is that most likely the popular demand of tax the rich has reached already its limit. More progressive taxation will most likely cause economic and social prosperity to suffer!

Where is the rallying cry for diversity and inclusion here? 😊

Make no mistake, the chart for most other Western countries looks quite similar!

Measuring Progressivity in Canada’s Tax System 2022

This a typical and widespread phenomenon that about 1/5 or 1/4 of taxpayers pay significantly more than 50% of all taxes is typical for other Western countries too, e.g. the U.S.

Is it some kind of Robin Hood principle enforced by government or is it some form of expropriation called income redistribution?

I recently blogged here about the importance of flat income taxation.

"... However, high-income families already pay a disproportionately large share of all Canadian taxes. Indeed, the evidence shows that the top 20 percent of income-earning families pay nearly two-thirds (61.4 percent) of the country’s personal income taxes and more than half (53.0 percent) of total taxes.
In contrast, the bottom 20 percent of income-earning families are estimated to pay only 0.8 percent of all federal and provincial personal income taxes and 2.1 percent of total taxes in Canada. This is, in part, due to the progressivity of Canada’s tax system, where the share of taxes paid typically increases as income rises. ..."

Why Don't Pro-Tax Millionaires Just Pay More Tax Voluntarily?

The headline speaks loud and clear for itself! Yes, those millionaires and billionaires who want to impose higher taxes on affluent taxpayers are free to voluntarily pay more taxes above and beyond what they must if they wish to do so and set an example for all of us taxpayers!
Will they do it? I doubt it, they are hypocrites!

Why Don't Pro-Tax Millionaires Just Pay More Tax Voluntarily? | Mises Wire: One need not look far for evidence that many Americans want to help the poor. One obvious piece of that evidence is that many give substantial amounts of time, effort, and money to do so.
