On David Strauss's Das Leben Jesu, kritisch bearbeitet (The Life of Jesus, Critically Examined)

Recently, I discovered or rediscovered this liberal protestant theologian (1808-1874)! Why this famous and controversial work is not better known is strange.

This book still seems to be controversial as there is not even a separate entry on Wikipedia for this influential book. When you Google this title you can find only digital copies of the book, but no discussion, essay, review etc.

I also believe that most if not all of the supernatural stuff written in the Bible about Jesus should be stripped. Without it, Jesus as a human being remains as a towering example of a a highly moral and good character and of a life dedicated to help other people.

Mozart Was A Genius

Just listened to Mozart’s Symphony No. 34 (1780) on Internet KMozart station. Incredible! Mozart was so gifted! I can imagine Mozart’s digit finger touching God’s finger like Michelangelo painted it in The Creation Of Adam.

Symphony No. 38

Just listened to his Symphony No. 38 on kmozart.com by the “Orch[estra] of the 18th Century/Frans Bruggen” again. This is a truly incredible piece of music! So amazing and beautiful! There is a dynamic in this music that is breathtaking and exhilarating. The optimism and the celebration of life is overwhelming. As if Mozart was a prophet of God speaking in a universal language.

Why did Mozart die so young? One may add nearly at the age of Jesus’s death. Like two men on a mission.

A Novice

I did not know much about classical music before I was at least 50 years old. Hence, the discovery of classical music late in my life is a special enjoyment. I try to listen to it as much as I can at work.

Brain Stimulation

I can certainly attest to this now that certain classical music pieces are absolutely stimulating to the brain.

Germany: A Regional Court Criminalizes Circumcision Of Boys

In Brief

The regional court of cologne (second lowest state court, Landgericht Köln) rendered that circumcision of a boy is a criminal offense (gefährlicher Körperverletzung), i.e. a grievous bodily harm was inflicted. The lower court had decided against the prosecutor, because it was a traditional, religious custom and because the Muslim parents had agreed to this procedure.

Jesus Was Circumcised

The Gospel of Luke states in verse 2:21 that Jesus was circumcised eight days after his birth. Moses was supposedly born without a foreskin.

Need To Be Overturned On Appeal

The condemnation of this verdict was swift, e.g. by the German Jewish organization. This was an insensible intervention into freedom of religion. For a highly educated German judge less than 70 years after World War II ended and Holocaust to come up with such a verdict is stunning.

I hope, this judge will think about this for a long time and hopefully this verdict will be successfully appealed.

The Wife Of Pontus Pilate

According to Wikipedia, she is a Saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. In Matthews 27:9 (NIV) we read “While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.””. That innocent man, of course, was Jesus. We do not know her name or much about her life.

Calpurnia Pisonis – Julius Cesar’s Third Wife

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia about the famous Ides of March of 44 BC: “According to historical tradition, reflected in some ancient sources, Calpurnia had a premonition of her husband's murder and tried to warn him in vain. She also encouraged Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus to send word to the senate that Caesar was sick on the day of his death, but Caesar refused to lie.” She was not alone. Mark Antony, having vaguely learned of the plot the night before, and fearing the worst, went to attempt to dissuade Caesar, but failed.
