An attack on healthcare every six hours or 4 per day, and no one held to account (mostly war or armed conflict related attacks)

Bad news!

"Across the world, healthcare has suffered more than 10,000 attacks in the past eight years, including during the brutal conflict in Ukraine and efforts to contain the current Ebola outbreak spreading rapidly in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). ...

The UN agency maintains a surveillance system for attacks on healthcare, which includes hospitals and other facilities, personnel and patients, ambulances and other transport, as well as warehouses and supplies.

Since 2018, more than 10,400 attacks have been reported across 29 countries and territories, resulting in approximately 5,700 deaths and over 8,000 injuries. To date, no one has been held accountable. ...

Between January and August of this year alone, WHO recorded more than 900 attacks resulting in at least 900 deaths and more than 1,400 injuries – a rate of more than four attacks a day.

Most incidents occurred in Ukraine, Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territory, but other locations include Myanmar, Iran, Sudan, the DRC, South Sudan, Russia, Syria and Nigeria. ..."

14 distinct foodborne parasites drive ~277 million illnesses worldwide

Bad news! Next time you travel to some of these regions ...

"... finds a new WHO analysis published in The Lancet Global Health; the research highlights “the significant burden” of “these often-overlooked diseases” that disproportionately affect low-resource regions. ..."

From the abstract:
"Background
Over 10 years ago, WHO estimates of hazard-specific foodborne disease burdens showed that parasites exert considerable health burdens globally. We updated these estimates, focusing on 14 invasive parasitic diseases.

Methods
Incidences, deaths, and disability-adjusted life-year (DALY) burdens were estimated for each parasitic disease from 2000 to 2021, using data from systematic reviews and the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study.
For some diseases, structured expert judgement was used to estimate proportions of foodborne infection.
Data were pooled via hierarchical meta-regression models with uncertainty propagated through Monte Carlo simulations following disease-specific computational models defined by incidence rates and probability parameters.

Findings
We estimated that 277 million illnesses were caused by potentially foodborne invasive parasites, with approximately 171 million attributable to foodborne transmission.
Considerable heterogeneity by parasite, in magnitude and uncertainty, was observed. Of 4·89 million foodborne DALYs associated with these diseases, highest contributions were from Taenia solium (1·3 million) and Clonorchis sinensis (0·921 million), both also associated with most foodborne deaths.
Burden was greatest in the region of the Americas, predominantly due to Chagas disease, followed by the African region, where neurocysticercosis-associated epilepsy caused most burden.
Burdens decreased globally from 2000 to 2021, except in the Western Pacific region, where the burden, predominantly associated with clonorchiasis, is rising.

Interpretation
Foodborne parasitoses cause considerable suffering, with some populations and regions particularly at risk. These data provide a baseline by which effects of interventions can be assessed and emphasis directed to those parasites exerting the greatest burden."

The number of unvaccinated children worldwide declines further

Good news! The comprehensive vaccination of children is a huge humanitarian success story!

Given "There are approximately 2.4 billion children (people under the age of 18) worldwide" (Google search) this is a great success!

"... Key takeaways: ~13.5 million children remained “zero-dose” in 2025, meaning they missed all routine vaccinations. That number is down ~750,000 from the previous year, but still well above pre-pandemic levels. ..."

"...  In 2025, 90 per cent of infants globally – or nearly 116 million – received at least one dose of a diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP) vaccine, and 85 per cent – or 110 million – completed the full three-dose series ..."

First Malaria Drug for Babies Is Approved by WHO in Major Milestone

Good news! This is a bit of old news, first announced in April of this year.

"“The first malaria treatment for babies has been approved by the World Health Organization, opening the door to widespread use around the globe.

In parts of Africa, up to 18% of children under six months will be infected with malaria, but there has historically been no safe treatment for the smallest of them. ...

Medical leaders hope that Coartem Baby, which can be used to treat infants as small as 2kg (4.4lb), will fill the treatment gap.  ...

enable public-sector procurement for many countries with high rates of malaria, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.”"

"... Novartis is making the treatment available on largely not-for-profit basis in malaria-endemic regions. ..."

"... prequalification of the first treatment developed specifically for newborns and young infants weighing between two and five kilograms. ..."

Argentina formalizes withdrawal from World Health Organization

Good news! What is the WHO good for? Maybe time for a new international health organization!

"Argentina has officially left the World Health Organization (WHO), the agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. A year after requesting its withdrawal, the process has been completed, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno announced.

President Javier Milei’s administration had informed its decision to leave the organization in February 2025, and sent a notification requesting withdrawal on March 17 of last year.

The move was in line with United States President Donald Trump’s decision to abandon the WHO last year, a process that was completed in January.

“Our country will continue to promote international cooperation in healthcare through our bilateral agreements and regional frameworks, while fully safeguarding its sovereignty and its decision-making authority regarding health policies,” Quirno said in an X post. ..."

The U.S. Has formally Left the WHO today

Good news! Maybe a reorganisation etc. is not a bad idea! Bravo President Trump for shaking things up!

Are other countries stepping up?

"The U.S. formally leaves the WHO today, completing a yearlong withdrawal process begun on President Trump’s first day in office in 2025, and leaving a budgetary crisis and ruptured global health security in its wake, reports Reuters.

Global fallout: The loss of the U.S.—once the WHO’s largest donor—has led the agency to make deep budget cuts and plan layoffs for nearly a quarter of its staff. ..."

Global violence Against Women Remains a ‘Deeply Neglected Crisis’. Really!

What a one sided propaganda and demagoguery! Of course, no violence against anyone is justified.

Men watch out in the battle of the sexes!

How many women have incited violence against men? Women don't do the dirty work, they let other men do it for them.

How about non-physical violence of women against men?

How many women have provoked such violence? (it does not justify the violence)

How many times have men prevented violence against women?

"Violence Against Women Remains a ‘Deeply Neglected Crisis’

~840 million women globally have experienced intimate partner or sexual violence in their lifetimes, per a landmark WHO report released yesterday that describes the problem as a "deeply neglected crisis,” Al Jazeera reports.

More numbers:

11% (316 million) of women and girls ages 15 and older were subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner over the past year.

Violence starts early, affecting 16% of adolescent girls ages 15–19 (12.5 million), the WHO reports. ..."

Many European Parents with obese children tend to think their children are underweight or normal weight

Who is right, parents or WHO? Are parents just make belief or wishful thinking or denying reality or is there something wrong with the definition of obesity in children?

How reliably or accurately is obesity in children defined? Is there a widely accepted consensus on this definition?

It seems to be quite pretentious by the WHO to question parents like this?

The more obese children are diagnosed, the better the business for doctors?

I personally know one of my best high school friends would today probably be considered seriously obese. However, he did not really eat junk food, his eating habits were normal and he was a very athletic teenager doing a lot of sports. Thus, we considered him specially heavy built with a little bit of a belly and big face, but not obese and not fat.

Plus, during puberty does not the physical shape of some teenagers sometimes dramatically change like from chubby to tall and slender? So what does obesity in this context mean?

"Nearly two-thirds of European parents with children who are overweight or obese think their kids are underweight or normal weight, per a WHO report."

From the abstract:
"Unhealthy body weight in children affects physical and mental health, school performance and quality of life, while also raising the risk of obesity and noncommunicable diseases later in life. Reliable data are essential to guide action against childhood obesity and to track progress. To this end, WHO established the European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI) in 2007. This is now the largest childhood obesity surveillance initiative in the world, with the participation of 48 countries in 2024.
This report presents findings from COSI’s sixth round (2022–2024), covering about 470 000 children aged 6–9 years across 37 countries, with additional information on family and health behaviours for over 150 000 children.
Overall, 25% of children aged 7–9 years were living with overweight (including obesity) and 11% with obesity
Large differences continue in prevalence between countries, with the prevalence of overweight ranging from 9–42% and prevalence of obesity ranging from 3–20%.
Unhealthy dietary habits were common, and only about half of children travel actively to school. These findings highlight that childhood obesity continues to pose a serious public threat to the Region and underscore that comprehensive policy action is urgently needed at international, national and local levels."

"... At the same time, parents of children living with overweight or obesity tend to underestimate their children’s weight status. ...

For the first time, COSI also reported on thinness – a reminder that undernutrition coexists with excess weight in several countries. This double burden of malnutrition highlights persistent inequality between and within countries. ...

New to COSI Round 6, data on parental perception revealed a major gap in awareness. Overall, nearly two thirds (66%) of children living with overweight were perceived by their parents to be underweight or normal weight.
In all countries with data available, more than half of the parents of children living with overweight underestimated their children’s weight status. ..."

Global tobacco use is continuing its decades-long fall according to WHO

Good news!

"... Positive trendlines:
  • Prevalence of tobacco use among those 15+ was 19.5% last year, dropping from 26.2% in 2010, and 33.1% in 2000.
  • Men in Southeast Asia using tobacco plummeted to 37% last year from 70% in 2000.
...
  • 24.1% of adult Europeans used tobacco in 2024—the world’s highest prevalence, Health Policy Watch reports.
  • In Bulgaria, nearly 36% of people smoke— Europe’s highest prevalence.

Wie Friedrich Merz unsere Grundrechte über die WHO verringert!

Schlechte Nachrichten!

WHO proposes new taxes on tobacco, sugary drinks, and alcohol. Really!

Maybe time to dissolve the WHO? The WHO appears to be run by some terrible socialists!

How many times have sin taxes been tried before and failed? What is the definition of insanity?

"An initiative to boost taxes on tobacco, sugary drinks, and alcohol has been introduced by the WHO; the “3 by 35” effort urges international governments to implement such taxes by at least 50% by 2035 in an effort to reduce noncommunicable disease."

China expands global influence with $500 million WHO donation

Good news! About time China steps up! What about the Europeans?

How effective is actually the WHO? Perhaps Western countries should have their own international health organisation.

"China has pledged to give $500 million to the World Health Organization as the country is set to replace the United States as the group’s top state donor, expanding Beijing’s global influence in the wake of Washington’s retreat from international cooperation. ..."

World Pandemic Agreement Reached at WHO in Geneva

Call me very skeptic!

Bravo President Trump! The Us did not to participate in this agreement!

From the beginning, China did not cooperate very well when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in 2019! Was it a lab lead or not? Was it just a zoonosis or a human accident or intention?

"Around 2 a.m. today at the WHO’s Geneva headquarters—after 3+ years of back-and-forth between 190 countries—the 32-page working draft of a global pandemic treaty was finally highlighted in one color: green. ...

Notably absent: The U.S., which was barred from participating following President Trump’s January decision to withdraw from the WHO, and which is not expected to sign the treaty. ..."

How Guinea eliminated Sleeping Sickness starting 2012

Good news!

"Twenty years ago, Guinea had the highest number of sleeping sickness cases in West Africa. But as of this year, the country managed to eliminate the NTD transmitted by the Trypanosoma parasite and spread by tsetse flies, the WHO announced.

What did it take? After elimination efforts including mass screening and treatment proved ineffective, the focus shifted to vector control.
Researchers discovered that tsetse flies are attracted to the color blue, so they developed tiny blue fabric screens coated with insecticide to attract and kill tsetse—a so-called “tiny targets” approach that has made a massive dent in cases. ..."

"... Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), or sleeping sickness, is a vector-borne parasitic disease caused by infected tsetse flies. ...

The programme introduced vector control interventions in 2012 aiming to interrupt contact between people and tsetse flies. Initially implemented in the Boffa-East area, this strategy expanded nationwide by 2016, with nearly 15 000 impregnated mini-screens (with insecticides to attract and kill the tsetse flies) deployed annually.

However, Guinea faced significant challenges in its HAT elimination efforts during the Ebola outbreak and COVID-19.
From 2013 to 2015, the Ebola epidemic caused a suspension of medical activities, leading to a resurgence in HAT cases.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic posed further disruptions, but the programme adapted by implementing door-to-door HAT screening to maintain control efforts. ..."

Argentina to withdraw from WHO after Trump exit, citing 'deep differences'

Good news! Bravo! When two men with a chainsaw and a waste truck unite! 😊

Italy’s deputy prime minister Salvini Threatens To Withdraw Italy From WHO

Good news! Will Prime Minister Meloni follow along? 😊

Will Hungary's Prime Minister Orban join?

It is high time for Western countries to form their own international health organisation or to coordinate their global health efforts apart and independent from the WHO.

"Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister, has proposed a bill to withdraw Italy from the World Health Organization (WHO), following Donald Trump’s executive order on Monday.

“I presented this morning at the Chamber of Deputies, the League’s bill to leave the WHO (World Health Organization), as did the United States with Donald Trump,” said Salvini, leader of the far-right League party, on X.  "
