Black female health-equity advocate named JAMA editor-in-chief

After the latest U.S. Supreme Court justice appointment now this!
Absolutely shameful and appalling! What the heck is going on in America! Unconstitutional!

Appointments by ideology!
Ideology trumps meritocracy!

"A year after the prestigious medical journal JAMA was embroiled in controversy over a podcast seen as racist by critics, the American Medical Association has appointed a prominent health-equity researcher as the publication’s new editor-in-chief — the first person of color to hold the position. ..."

Government Licensing Requirements Are Killing The American Dream

Posted: 9/7/2014

Prologue

As time goes by I intend to write more about this subject.

For now it must suffice to say that many of the licensing requirements by state and federal governments have gone way too far since the early 20th century or so.

The American Dream is not simply to own a house, raise a family,  and to make a decent living! The American Dream is e.g.  about opportunities to choose what you want to accomplish in your lifetime! Excessive government mandated or otherwise mandated licensing requirements are anathema to the Dream.

Outline

Many careers of famous and not so famous Americans up until the 20th century would have been impossible or difficult to accomplish would these Americans live now. It appears that many of these Americans had frequent and drastic changes in jobs and professional endeavours over their lifetime, which would be hard to repeat under current licensing requirements.

Many licensing requirements are superfluous and have paternalistic or cronyism motivations!

In particular, doctors, nurses, and attorneys have carved out for themselves a nice monopoly or established severe barriers to entry into their professions. This status quo should be drastically reformed and opened up to more competition!

Notes On Buckey O'Neill And The American Dream

Trigger

The Self-Guided Walking Tour of the Grand Canyon Village Historic District (published by Xanterra South Rim LLC) guide brochure contains a short bio of this man.

Well, this man did a lot more than build a log cabin in the early 1890s on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Buckey O’Neill

We are talking about here about the illustrious, varied career of William Owen "Buckey" O'Neill (February 2, 1860 – July 1, 1898).

The Erosion Of The American Dream

According to the above brochure, O’Neill “moved to Arizona in 1879 at the age of 19 in search of a career and worked as a journalist, miner, politician, and judge.

According to Wikipedia:
  1. he “founded his own newspaper” in Prescott, AZ
  2. in 1888, he “served as Yavapai County, Arizona judge”
  3. “he was elected county sheriff” in 1888
  4. he “was elected unanimously Mayor of Prescott”
  5. he “ran for Delegate to the United States House of Representatives from Arizona Territory, running on the Populist Party ticket.”

Would anybody today believe that such a varied career in such a short time span would be possible in the U.S. with all  its regulations and licensing requirements, public sector unions etc.?

Of course, someone could easily dismiss this argument, because Arizona then had little population and so on, but I bet you there are more guys and girls out there in U.S. history whose remarkable careers would not be possible anymore like that.
