Very bad German habits exposed at the cemetery administration of the city of Frankfurt am Main

The official PDF file (13 pages, Friedhofsordnung) regarding the regulations applying to the cemetery and its burial sites where my mother was recently buried is horrible!

The PDF file is totally protected. Basically no permissions to do anything with this PDF file, but reading it. E.g. you can not even highlight or copy any content!

It is not possible to export the content of the PDF file as a text file!

This is terrible overkill! So typical German!

Just 50 Holocaust survivors will be at Auschwitz for the 80th anniversary of its liberation

Say they time heals all wounds! The wound of the Holocaust is too horrible!

Unfortunately, antisemitism is still alive and killing! October 7 was another horrific example!

Just 50 Holocaust survivors will be at Auschwitz for the 80th anniversary of its liberation - Jewish Telegraphic Agency "The dwindling numbers offer a stark representation of the declining population of survivors who are still able to tell their stories."

Eva Szepesi, 92, gazes at family photos in her Frankfurt [am Main, my hometown]  home. Szepesi, 92, is a Holocaust survivor attending the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Beethoven: 8. Sinfonie ∙ hr-Sinfonieorchester ∙ Paavo Järvi

Enjoy! I can never get enough of Beethoven! This concert was performed in the concert hall the Alte Oper, which is located in the neighborhood I grew up in.

Frankfurter Bahnhofsviertel: Waffenverbotszone Mon - So 21:00 - 5:00 ist ein guter Weg. Wirklich!

Ob das hilft??? Was geht in diesen Wirrköpfen vor!

What Do Frankfurt Am Main And Rome Have In Common?

Birthplace And Favorite Destination

Frankfurt am Main, Germany is my birthplace. Rome, Italy is one of my favorite travel destinations among the capitals of Western Europe.

Election Of Kings

Both cities are known for being places where kings were elected. In Frankfurt nobles were choosing the next king. In Rome during the Roman Kingdom period, the people elected the next king.

Both Cities Are At A Major River

But this is not all, both cities lie at a critical ford across the river. Frankfurt is even named after the ford of the Franks. Some say population is destiny, but geography is influential too.

Hysteric German Opposition To Google Street View

Long Overdue

This is a blog post I had intended to write some time ago, but did not find time to write it or this subject had drifted away.

Google Stopped Taking Pictures In Germany

“In April 2011, Google decided to stop taking Street View images in Germany” (Wikipedia). Germans can be very parochial and myopic.

What Germans don’t see are the enormous benefits of this project. Just the thought of being able to wander through the most famous streets, places etc. of the world at any time from my computer at home or even from my smartphone is mind boggling.

I believe, most of the concerns raised against Google Street View can be easily ameliorated by current and available software technology, e.g. automatically graying out faces, license plates etc. Are Luddites only a past phenomenon?

Personal Experience

Not long ago I wanted to identify the multi-dwelling house in which my maternal Grandmother lived in the city of Frankfurt am Main. I had some faint memory of what it looked like and where it was located.

Since I live in the USA I would have to travel to Germany to physically walk through the street to refresh my memory. Thus I thought, I use Google Streetview from the comfort of my home in the US and view the pictures of this short and narrow street not far from downtown. However, as I was viewing the images of the multi-story buildings lining this rather typical residential neighborhood, I noticed that a large number of dwellings were not visible due to redaction. Thus, my effort was practically thwarted by the residents of this street. Thank you very much!
