How Does Ranked-Choice Voting Work?

Recommendable, except that political issues nor political candidates are not ice cream flavors! Outcomes may become unpredictable and the majority of voters may not like it!

Moldovan Elections to Spotlight Decline of Support for Russia

Good news!

"Presidential elections in Moldova scheduled for October 20—the first since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine—will show how much influence Moscow still wields in the country. Before the war, Russia’s position was fairly strong. However, integration with Europe is now even supported by those Moldovan politicians who were previously considered to be Kremlin puppets. ..."

But public support for Russia remains significant."

Right-leaning Freedom Party wins Austria election, boosting European rightwing surge

Good news! This result will most likely also influence Germany!

The pendulum of democracy swings, often very slowly, but sometimes mightily! 😊

Enough of the leftist lunacy that has governed in too many Western countries for far too long!

"Austrian voters handed a first ever general election victory to the far-right Freedom Party on Sunday, vote projections showed, illustrating rising support for hard-right parties in Europe fueled by concern over immigration levels.
The Eurosceptic, Russia-friendly FPO held a slim lead in opinion polls for months over Chancellor Karl Nehammer's ruling conservative Austrian People's Party (OVP) in a campaign dominated by immigration and worries about the economy. ..."

Marxist Anura Kumara Dissanayake wins Sri Lanka's presidential election as voters reject old guard

When even NPR of all leftist news outlets calls the winner a Marxist you have to wonder! According to Wikipedia his party, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (People's Liberation Front) is a Marxist–Leninist communist party.

Maybe it will be Marxism with a Buddhist touch.

Hopefully, it is welcome change of guards in Sri Lanka after eight decades of domination by a political elite and the winner will overcome the sever economic crisis in this country.

"... Dissanayake, 55, leads the left-leaning coalition National People’s Power, an umbrella of civil society groups, professionals, Buddhist clergy and students. ..."

Russia’s Regional/Local Elections in September Exposed Limits on Kremlin Power

Recommendable! How do you spell election integrity in Russian?

"The Russian local elections that took place at the beginning of September did not produce any surprises. All the Kremlin-approved candidates for governorships won emphatic victories, and the ruling United Russia party gained majorities in all the regional parliaments that were up for grabs. Kremlin officials were able to boast of a record turnout, and the use of electronic voting in Moscow ensured an almost clean sweep for pro-government candidates (the opposition traditionally does well in the Russian capital). At the same time, a few hiccups showed that the system does occasionally malfunction.  ..."

Dutch government veers sharply right after four-party coalition deal. Really!

In order to "veer sharply right" perhaps the previous government was sharply left! Just saying! 😊 Don't say say democracy is like a pendulum, sometimes it swings more, sometimes less.

Austria's Beer Party, seeing glass half-full, runs for parliament

I toast to that! Cheers!

Like when the Turks introduced coffee for the first to Europe in Vienna 1529 AD! Caution: satire! 😊

Ranked choice voting: The Left’s latest scheme to permanently change elections in America

Recommendable! This ranked choice voting seems to be an important, controversial issue for more than one reason. Apparently, it makes it more difficult for a voter to figure out the consequences of one's voting. The outcomes may be more unpredictable and not reflecting the will of the majority.

Caveat: I am not very familiar with the pros and cons of this voting scheme.

"... As we speak, liberal special interests are leading a sophisticated national campaign to push ranked choice voting in nearly every state. They have hired lobbyists, formed astroturf activist groups, and are financing state ballot measures across the country. This year alone, more than a half-dozen states, including battlegrounds such as Arizona and Nevada, are facing initiatives to change their elections with ranked choice voting. ...
In fact, ranked choice voting makes voting harder and puts the public’s trust in elections in jeopardy. ..."

Female Democrat candidate who livestreamed sex acts with her husband for money loses bid for Virginia House seat

The joy of sex happens not to be an election winner! Don't mix politics and sex so they say! 😊

Nice try!

"The Democrat candidate who filmed pornographic videos with her husband and streamed them online has lost her bid for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

In September, Susanna Gibson, a 40-year-old wife and mother of two who was vying for the state House seat representing District 57, made national headlines when news broke that she and her husband, John David Gibson, had previously livestreamed themselves having intimate relations on the website Chaturbate.

Gibson, who works as a nurse practitioner by day ..."
