The German Aldi grocery chain is to expand to 2,800 stores in the US in 2026

Good news! Competition is good, more competition is better!

"Aldi, the budget-friendly grocery chain, plans to open more than 180 stores by the end of 2026, pushing its total footprint to nearly 2,800 stores this year, including its first stores in Colorado and additional stores in the Southeast and West markets."

US nuclear-capable bombers fly with Japanese fighters over Sea of Japan as China and Russia do similar drills

Hope and pray this will not further escalate!

I blogged here yesterday about these drills by China and Russia.

ICE Arrests Des Moines, Iowa School Superintendent

How is this possible! Only in America, land of immigrants! 😊

"Federal agents arrested the superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools in Iowa on Friday after they discovered he was in the country illegally with a deportation order—and in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash, and a hunting knife.

Ian Andre Roberts, originally from Guyana, has a previous weapons possession charge from February 2020. An immigration judge issued a “final order of removal” for Roberts in May 2024.

“How this illegal alien was hired without work authorization, a final order of removal, and a prior weapons charge is beyond comprehension and should alarm the parents of that school district,” said Sam Olson, the director of the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations St. Paul Field Office.

Roberts entered the U.S. on a student visa in 1999. Since 2023, he has served as superintendent of Iowa’s largest school district and previously was a principal and school turnaround leader in Washington, DC, Baltimore, and St. Louis."

The Man Leading Christian Nationalism’s Rise Under Trump: Pastor Doug Wilson

Recommendable! His remarks about e.g. slavery in the US were food for thought! Not all slaveholders were horrible (some slaveholders were actually black, but he did not say that)!

475 people were arrested yesterday in an immigration raid at a Hyundai battery plant under construction in Georgia

What! Incredible! Are South Korean companies a little bit loose on following US laws when operating in the US.

"They had illegally crossed the border, entered through a visa waiver program that prohibited working or overstayed their visas, the Department of Homeland Security said. No criminal charges were filed as of today, and the investigation remains ongoing. More than 300 people were South Korean nationals, according to an official from that country. Seoul protested the action and said it was trying to secure their release. Hyundai has pledged $26 billion in U.S. investments in recent weeks."

"The U.S. carried out its largest single-site immigration raid ever, detaining nearly 500 foreigners at a Hyundai Motor battery plant in Georgia and injecting fresh risk to overseas firms eyeing American investment to satisfy President Trump’s trade demands.

Some 475 individuals were arrested Thursday at a factory under construction near Savannah, Ga., set to make electric-vehicle batteries in a joint venture between Hyundai and fellow South Korean firm LG Energy Solution. The broader $7.6 billion EV-production site there represents the largest manufacturing project in Georgia’s history. ..."

How Trump’s China Trade War Played Out in His First Term

Recommendable! The accusations like intellectual property theft, subsidies for domestic companies, price dumping, and arm twisting of Western companies by China can not be easily dismissed.
The last sentence of this video, i.e. the inflation was caused by the tariffs, is mostly ludicrous!
