Automatic voter registration let non-citizens onto voter rolls in South Dakota, Oregon and 23 other states plus Washington DC

Bad news! What can possibly go wrong! Automatic voter registration might be a convenience, but if it lacks monitoring and verification ...

What was wrong with the 2020 general elections? A lot! Not least the sudden switch to massive mail in vote due to Covid-19!

Kristi Noem was the Governor of South Dakota until recently! Did she do anything about it?

How many cities across the country allow non citizens to vote in local elections? How many of them are removed from state and federal elections?

"... A report released by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) last week shows that both South Dakota and Oregon, which have automatic voter registration, found non-citizens on their respective voter rolls last year. The report explains that this occurs easily and warns states about using automatic voter registration. ...

The 24 states that have automatic voter registration are Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. ..."

"The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) released a research brief detailing how driver licensing agencies were blamed for alien residents becoming registered to vote in 2024 thanks to automatic voter registration systems in Oregon and South Dakota.

For years, PILF has warned that automatic voter registration (AVR) invites error. AVR forces department of motor vehicle clerks into the role of making determinations of voting eligibility. Non-English speakers are routinely confused by the paperwork at DMV, and then their names and addresses are automatically sent to the voter roll. If DMV clerks make errors logging noncitizen customer information, the same can happen. Both scenarios were disclosed shortly before Election Day 2024. ..."

LZ experiment sets new record in search for dark matter

Amazing stuff! Where is the WIMP hiding? More success in narrowing down the possible hiding place.

What if these hypothetical particles, i.e. WIMPs, do not exist?

"... New results from the world’s most sensitive dark matter detector, LUX-ZEPLIN, have narrowed down possibilities for one of the leading dark matter candidates: weakly interacting massive particles, or WIMPs. ...
The collaboration found no evidence of WIMPs above a mass of 9 gigaelectronvolts/c2 (GeV/c2). (For comparison, the mass of a proton is slightly less than 1 GeV/c2.) The experiment's sensitivity to faint interactions helps researchers reject potential WIMP dark matter models that don't fit the data, leaving significantly fewer places for WIMPs to hide. ...
Dark matter, so named because it does not emit, reflect or absorb light, is estimated to make up 85% of the mass in the universe but has never been directly detected, though it has left its fingerprints on multiple astronomical observations. ...
LZ uses 10 tonnes of liquid xenon ..."

"LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) collaboration ... hunts for dark matter from a cavern nearly one mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota. ..."

LZ experiment sets new record in search for dark matter | symmetry magazine "New results from the world’s most sensitive dark matter detector put the best-ever limits on particles called WIMPs, a leading candidate for what makes up our universe’s invisible mass."

LZ Experiment at SURF Sets New Record in Search for Dark Matter (original news release) "The experiment’s new results explore areas never searched before and further limits what WIMPs could be."

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem banned from reservation lands by multiple tribal nations

What is this skirmish all about? Party politics? What influence does the Dimocratic Party have on native Americans?

"The Oglala Sioux Tribe was the first tribe to ban Noem from their land, citing that they didn't like how she referred to the surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border as an "invasion." ...
Noem sent a statement to The Hill, in which she urged tribal leaders to “immediately banish the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for murders, rapes, drug addiction, and many more crimes on tribal lands.”
“The people in the communities live with unspeakable horrors and tragedy every day, but banishing me for telling the truth about the suffering does nothing to solve the problems,” her statement reads. “It may play well for the leftist media, but in reality, it’s pointless.” ..."

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem raises eyebrows by posting video about having dental work done by Smile Texas

Headline of the day!

"... "I love my new family at Smile Texas! The video says it all, and I am so grateful for their help fixing my smile for me," Noem wrote when sharing the nearly five-minute video on social media. ...
Noem ... is widely viewed as someone former President Donald Trump might potentially pick as his 2024 running mate. ..."

Fighting Syphilis among Native Americans in South Dakota

Hopefully, Governor Kristi Noem is already busy dealing with this issue!

"... From only 41 syphilis cases in 2016 to 874 in 2021, South Dakota has seen syphilis cases skyrocket in just a few years. The largest spike occurred between 2020’s 100 cases to 2021’s 874. ..." (South Dakota Department of Health)

"... As syphilis cases surged in South Dakota late last year, four out of every five people who tested positive in the state were Native Americans.
Of the 81 babies born with congenital syphilis between 2021 and mid-2023, 90% were born to Indigenous mothers.
And yet: The Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board has faced an uphill battle obtaining critical health data from federal and state agencies—rendering tribe leaders unable to activate a response.
State health departments are supposed to share data with Tribal Epidemiology Centers, as with any other health department. But they often don’t, tribal health leaders say.
And the inability to access information has “felt like just one more challenge to tribal sovereignty.” ..."
