The EU will soon find out what Brexit means when it comes to its scientific research funding! The UK was not only the overall second largest net contributor to the EU budget, but also the second largest funder of scientific research in the EU.
In honor of Thomas Paine and other Founders & Immigrants. In memory of my daddy Horst Bingel and my mom Irma Bingel

EU Commission Wants To Prohibit Disposable Plastic Bags
As Reported
The EU Commission wants to either tax or prohibit the use of disposable plastic bags as reported e.g. here. In particular, EU Commission aims its measure at clear plastic bags to wrap fruits or vegetables.
Pseudo Rationalization By Statists
- Plastic bags are not being properly disposed of now reused.
- Plastic bags decompose or rot only very slowly.
- Plastic bags end up in rivers and oceans where they kill animals.
I would posit that plastic bags are more often reused than these busybody politicians and environmentalists want us to believe.
Why do governments not pay for more research to develop plastic bags that decompose faster? Why don’t we have yet bacteria that eat plastic bags for desert and excreting valuable resources.
How many animals are killed by plastic bags per year? For environmentalists and animal rights activists one animal is one to many.
If plastic bags or other plastic remains end up in oceans would it not be better to finance a clean-up instead of authoritarian measures like this?

EUsociality - The Highest Level Of Social Organization
Common To Ants, Bees, And Termites
I stumbled upon this term eusociality today (3/2/2013) on Wikipedia which is defined as “a term used for the highest level of social organization in a hierarchical classification. Eusociality is characterized by cooperative brood care, overlapping adult generations and division of labor by reproductive and (partially) non-reproductive groups.”.
Just A Pure Coincidence
The EU (European Union) is some kind of sociality or is it? Given its top down, statist, centralist, and elitist approach a comparison with an ant colony is not so far from the point.
