Trump admin says it returned Endangered Species Act to original intent by changing 'harm' definition

Good news! Bravo! What took so long! Should have happened on day one in office!

"... This reform is based on the Supreme Court’s 2024 decision in Loper Bright v. Raimondo, which requires agencies to follow the single best meaning of a statute rather than contorting laws to fit political agendas. Using the legally justifiable standard, the Services determined that the prior definition of “harm” was an unlawful regulatory intrusion that interfered with private property rights. ..."

"... The Commerce and Interior Departments said they are rescinding the "outdated" regulatory definition of "harm," stating it will no longer interpret “harm” of a protected species to include modifications to a plant or animal’s habitat that could be detrimental to its survival.

The departments argued that previous administrations "weaponized" the word to block energy production, logging, infrastructure projects and private citizens' land use. ..."

America saved the grizzlies, and now the bears are invading towns.

What happens when you put an apex predator on an endangered species list?

Will hunters be allowed to kill grizzlies now to control the population?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions!

"An apex predator that can top 500 pounds and outrun a horse, grizzlies have made a roaring comeback since they were put on the Endangered Species List in 1975, when as few as 700 prowled the Lower 48 states. Biologists estimate the grizzly population has risen to at least 2,000, and the bears are now roaming far beyond their Glacier and Yellowstone National Park strongholds and into towns, farms and ranches across the Northern Rockies, where they hadn’t been seen in over a century. The resurgence is leading to conflicts between the bears and another apex species that had grown accustomed to life with few grizzlies—humans."

Golden Paintbrush Delisted From Endangered Species Act Due to Recovery

Extinction, deextinction. It is not a one way street! 😊

"... As the Endangered Species Act turns fifty years old, it has brought about a conservation success story in the Pacific Northwest. Prairies in Washington and Oregon are once again colored with the bright flowers of golden paintbrush. Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) finalized a rule to delist the previously rare plant from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) due to recovery.  ..."

U.S. District Court Reinstates Endangered Species Protection For Wolves In Wyoming

Posted: 9/29/2014

Trigger

Just read a few articles about that. E..g here. Here is the official U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services (FWS) press release about this.

What Is Wrong Here!

A lot:

  1. The delisting from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in Wyoming was given only a year or so before a federal court intervened. Way too little time! Way too much intervention by a federal court
  2. This case reminds We The People that the federal government owns way too much land  for way too long primarily in Western states. I blogged about this before here
  3. Big Government quickly grabbed power again at the expense of a state
  4. Hope, this decision by the lower court will be appealed and overturned

Government Allows Wind Turbines To Kill Birds And Bats

Trigger

Just in case you did not know that wind energy farms are allowed to kill flying animals and endangered species (e.g. bald eagle) with impunity thanks to the federal government.

This article and many others about this subject speak for themselves!

Do I and others sense a double standard here? You bet!
