In the first four months of the new Trump administration, solitary confinement spiked in illegal immigration detention. Really!

How phony is that claim! Some of the detained immigrants are criminals (incl. dangerous ones)!

They won't tell you how many of all detainees were held in solitary confinement and for how long! That is the way propaganda and demagoguery works!

Of course, there was such a spike since the senile, demented and corrupt 46th President completely failed to protect the borders of the US from the invasion of illegal immigrants! Almost any 47th President (D or R) would have had to correct that immediately.

What is all the fuss about regarding masked ICE officers?

Don't they already wear a visible id on their uniform? Supposedly, they do! If not they could be required to do so going forward! The typical ICE badge is not enough (as seen e.g. on the photo below)!

Since a significant number of the arrested and deported illegal immigrants are involved with serious organised crime, this masking may help to save lives or protect the families of these officers. It maybe a safety feature.

Harassment of these ICE officers and/or their families by media or political activists at their homes, during off duty times etc. might be another good reason for wearing masks. These are the times we live in.

I did not read the whole NYT article, but it does not seem to mention a word about illegal immigrants voluntarily leaving the US since President Trump came into office. However, the Breitbart article quotes Kristi Noem: "“In less than 200 days, 1.6 MILLION illegal immigrants have left the United States population,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said on August 14. ...""

Total annual remittances have a very significant effect on economies like Mexico and other Latin American countries. I bet, Mexico's new President Claudia Sheinbaum will not be amused.

Let me speculate that legal as well as illegal immigrants out of fear may have stopped making remittances.

A special tax on remittances seems to be an awfully bad idea! If we assume that the usual income taxes/withholding taxes were paid on the remuneration by these remittances senders then it would constitute some kind of double taxation. Hopefully, President Trump will not be foolish!

If e.g. the Venezuelan government is directly or indirectly in cahoots with these criminals (which is very likely), then the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 may apply.

Of course, there are legitimate legal concerns about that some of the deportees are innocent. However, these innocent deportees are still illegal immigrants.
