The Global Fertility Crisis Is Worse Than You Think. Really!

This propaganda and demagoguery about population is sickening and so primitive! More alarmism and hysteria! Humbug!

Demography is destiny, but not by simplistic population growth! Demography has been abused so many times in history: more taxpayers, more recruitment of better soldiers, racism etc. etc.

Less world human population might not be so bad for out planet and natural environment after it surged beginning 1950 from under 3 billion to now 8 billion humans roaming Earth.

Improved and further improving longevity will also contribute to slow down any population decline.

In the coming age of machine learning & artificial intelligence (AI) we depend less on extraordinary smart people to improve our future.

"... Last year was the first time in human history that the global fertility rate fell below the replacement level. ...
Ehrlich, like many others, got it wrong. What he needed to worry about was declining birth rates and population collapse. ..."

Danish government had IUDs placed in thousands of teenage girls and women of Greenland roughly between 1966-1970 and beyond

Reminder: In the name of population control horrible things were committed! The infamous book Population Bomb by Paul R. Ehrlich came out in 1968.

"At least 4,500 women, some teenagers, were fitted with coils to limit birth rates among the indigenous population.
An inquiry is due to conclude in 2025, but the women, some of whom are in their 70s, want compensation now.
Greenland, now a semi-sovereign territory of Denmark, was a Danish colony until 1953. ..."

Greenland women seek compensation over involuntary birth control A group of 67 women from Greenland are seeking compensation from the Danish government over a campaign of involuntary birth control.

China's aging population threatens a Japan-style lost decade

From the Japanese perspective! One possible solution robots!

When a totalitarian dictatorship enforces a one child policy for several decades!

Unfortunately, there are many Westerners who admire such government control policies applied to families! Authoritarianism is very seductive. Simple one size fits all government solutions are supported by rather naive people!

"Last year China's population declined for the first time since 1961, and this downward trend looks likely to continue.
China is not yet a high-income country, and its shrinking population could be a drag on economic growth as more and more retirees claim an ever greater share of resources.
Could China be headed for catastrophe as the workforce shrinks, pension coffers dry up and the health care system becomes more overburdened?"

China's aging population threatens a Japan-style lost decade - Nikkei Asia Beijing's brutal one-child policy tackled overpopulation but did it go too far?

When will China’s population peak or has it peaked?

Recommendable! India and China are in a sort of population race. Demography is destiny!

The aftermath of the One Child Policy (officially started in 1980 and ended in 2015, but prior efforts to control population growth started in the 1970s).

"... After years of falling birth rates, the National Health Commission wrote in an article published online in early August that China’s population growth has slowed significantly and will start to decline between 2023 and 2025. According to an estimate published last month in a peer-reviewed Chinese journal, Social Science Journal, Wei Chen, a demographer at Renmin University in Beijing, concluded that, on the basis of national census data released in 2020, China’s population might have already peaked in 2021 ...
Last year, China’s total population increased by only 480,000 people, to just more than 1.41 billion, with a natural growth rate — the difference between the numbers of births and deaths — of close to zero. The country’s birth rate declined for the fifth consecutive year to 7.5 births per thousand people, and only 10 million babies were born in 2021, the lowest since 1949."

When will China’s population peak? It depends who you ask Data show the country is facing a demographic crisis, with an ageing population and young couples having fewer children.

What you should know about China’s population control measures

Recommendable!

"... By enforcing the one-child policy [between 1980-2016], the Chinese government committed various human rights violations, including forced late-term abortions and sterilizations. In addition to violating the dignity of the human person in these ways, several demographic issues have arisen. For instance, gender imbalance emerged due to the preference for sons, which led to an increase in female babies being killed, abandoned, and placed in orphanages. In 2016, there were 33.59 million more men than women in China [many of these men are young and remain unmarried]. Oftentimes, many families who violated the one-child policy had undocumented children, creating struggles for these children in obtaining an education or job. The fertility rate, birth rate, and rate of natural increase (the birth rate subtracted by the death rate) all declined as a result of China’s policy. ..."

What you should know about China’s population control measures – Acton Institute PowerBlog The ratio between working aged adults and retired individuals in China was 6 to 1 in 2007. That ratio is expected to reduce to 2 to 1 by 2040. Chinese society is now aging faster than it can churn out new workers.

Indira Gandhi: Leading India for Fifteen Years

Recommendable! What a controversial politician she was! The forced sterilization of millions of Indian men is perhaps one of her greatest failures besides her pursuing socialism in India!
