Why are Myanmar’s Ethnic Armies always at War? with Palki Sharma

Very recommendable!
"Myanmar is said to have around 135 ethnic groups, many of them with their own territory and army. Since its independence in 1948, Myanmar has struggled to create a national identity and put down rebellions by ethnic armies. Many military experts consider Myanmar’s internal conflict to be the longest-running civil war in the world. ..."

Explosive Toll of Landmines in Myanmar

Bad news! Landmines and unexploded ordinance are the scourges of war to civilians sometimes long after the war ended! Human progress is very slow! Give peace a chance (John Lennon)!

What is the situation in Vietnam since 1975?

"Landmine casualties nearly tripled in Burma (Myanmar) last year as the nation’s civil war escalated, a new UNICEF report finds.
That means Burma now ranks among the world’s nations “most heavily contaminated” with landmines.
Children are especially vulnerable, making up 20% of victims.

By the numbers:
188 people were killed and 864 wounded from buried bombs—compared to 390 casualties in 2022.
Ubiquitous usage: Landmines are being used by “all sides in the conflict,” and are in every region except the nation’s capital, Naypyitaw."

"... Data released by UNICEF on International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance shows that there were 1,052 verified civilian casualties from landmine and explosive ordnance incidents during 2023 – nearly triple the 390 incidents recorded in 2022. Over 20 per cent of the victims were children. ..."

Myanmar imposes new income tax on workers abroad

A pretty stupid move! Not least it invites tax evasion by these workers working abroad.

You can almost bet estimated/predicted tax revenues will be significantly below actual revenues!

"Myanmar has begun taxing nationals who work overseas in a seeming effort to boost foreign-currency inflows, raising fears among employers of appearing to indirectly support the military government.

Since mid-December, Myanmar's embassies in key Asian countries have announced a series of new tax rules for nationals living in their jurisdictions. ..."

Criminal complaint lodged in Manila (Philippines) against Myanmar junta by a group of citizens from Myanmar

Recommendable! "The group says seeking prosecution overseas is the only way they can get justice for their loved ones. Their lawyers say a 2009 law in the Philippines that promotes human rights obligates the country to prosecute war crimes committed elsewhere under the principle of universal jurisdiction."
