The Left’s War on the Supreme Court Just Hit a Terrifying New Low by John Yoo

Recommendable! Very concerning!

Unfortunately, Yoo does not go further back in history (i.e. before the administration of President Obama) to make his argument! Very regrettable!

"Last week, The New York Times divulged a fresh trove of confidential internal memoranda between the Supreme Court justices. The documents allegedly show that Chief Justice John Roberts and his conservative colleagues have abused the Court’s technical procedures to block the agenda of Democratic presidents and to favor Republicans. While this accusation can only succeed by ignoring the broader context of the Court’s work, it heralds the latest progressive attack on the Court as a stabilizing institution in our national politics. ...

But the Times report represents a greater affront than just a leak about procedural tussling within the Supreme Court. Last week’s leak of the Court’s memos represents the third breach of the Court’s confidential deliberations in the last four years. It began with the leak — for the first time in American history — of a draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs in 2022, which overturned Roe v. Wade. It continued with a 2024 New York Times story based on documents and interviews that detailed the deliberations behind Trump v. United States, which held the former president immune from federal prosecution for his official acts."

How will the roughly $134 billion in tariff revenues, collected by the Trump administration, be refunded?

Now that the US Supreme Court has decided that Trump did not have the authorization for these broad tariffs!

"The ruling leaves open a massive question: refunds. As much as $175 billion has been collected under the struck-down tariffs, and trade attorneys warn the refund process could take months to years. The Court’s opinion was silent on how repayment should work."

"The battle is just starting for the 300,000 businesses that want $134 billion in tariffs refunded. ...

As it turns out, convincing six Supreme Court justices that President Donald Trump overstepped his authority in imposing sweeping tariffs relying on emergency economic powers was the easy part. The hard part: Getting a clear answer on what happens to the tens of billions of dollars that US companies forked over after Trump jacked up tariffs on every global partner last year.

The Trump administration — both formally and informally — has promised to refund duties collected if the Supreme Court issued a ruling against them. But neither the administration nor any of the justices have specified exactly how it would work. ..."

Laura Ingraham discuses the US Supreme Court decision on Trump's tariffs

Recommendable! Laura also discusses the two dissenting opinions, which seem to be a lot more convincing than the decision itself.

US Supreme Court Strikes Down Tariffs Core to Trump Economic Agenda

What's next? Is there another law possibly giving President Trump the authorization?

From an economic standpoint it would be justified (but not recommended) to respond with tariffs if another country imposes tariffs on US imports. Hower, such countervailing/reciprocal tariffs may violate international trade agreements.

"In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump’s executive actions on tariffs exceeded his constitutional authority.

During oral arguments in November, even Trump-appointed justices seemed skeptical of the government’s arguments that the president could impose tariffs without congressional approval. ...

At issue was whether the president exceeded his executive branch authority by imposing tariffs under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a law intended to address emergencies only.

The Trump administration has argued the trade imbalance constitutes a national emergency. Trump has consistently argued the United States has gotten a raw deal on trade with other countries that impose tariffs. ..."

Supreme Court hacker posted stolen government data on Instagram under @ihackthegovernment

Some criminals want to make damn sure they get caught!

Or was he just trying to demonstrate how easy it was to hack into the US Supreme Court?

How was he able to steal the credentials of legitimate users?

The hacker faces only a maximum sentence of one year in prison??? This is almost like taking a vacation!

"... Last week, Nicholas Moore, 24, a resident of Springfield, Tennessee, pleaded guilty to repeatedly hacking into the U.S. Supreme Court’s electronic document filing system. At the time, there were no details about the specifics of the hacking crimes Moore was admitting to. ...

Moore hacked not only into the Supreme Court systems, but also the network of AmeriCorps, a government agency that runs stipend volunteer programs, and the systems of the Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides healthcare and welfare to military veterans.

Moore accessed those systems using stolen credentials of users who were authorized to access them. Once he gained access to those victims’ accounts, Moore accessed and stole their personal data and posted some online to his Instagram account: @ihackthegovernment. ...

According to the court document, Moore faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a maximum fine of $100,000. ..."

The US Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s emergency request to deploy National Guard troops in the Chicago area

Maybe, the Trump administration was a little to fast and loose in this case!

Caveat: I am not familiar with the details of the case nor the court order.

"The unsigned [court] order stated the government “failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois.”"

"... At this preliminary stage, the Government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois. The President has not invoked a statute that provides an exception to the Posse Comitatus Act. Instead, he relies on inherent constitutional authority that, according to the Government, allows him to use the military to protect federal personnel and property. ..."

US Supreme Court said “No” to the State of New York’s attempt to force an Amish community to vaccinate their school-age children.

Good news! Bravo!

The Amish and Mennonite communities of America are one of the reasons for American Exceptionalism!

"... For religious reasons, the Amish educate their children in private Amish schools and have done so for hundreds of years without vaccinations.

And for over 50 years, New York accommodated their religious belief by granting religious exemptions from the State’s school vaccination requirements. But in 2019, the State repealed its religious exemption for vaccine mandates for school children.

In 2022, the State imposed catastrophic penalties on the Amish community in its attempt to force them to comply.

This Supreme Court decision sends a clear message to the government that it can no longer force parents to comply with policies that substantially interfere with their ability to raise their children according to their religious beliefs. ..."

Amy Coney Barrett and her 7 children

Just learnt, probably for the first time, that this Justice on US Supreme Court has so many children!

The more children, the wiser her verdicts?

Amazing stuff!

Four US Supreme Court justices are older than 70 years old

There is a good chance that President Trump will become an opportunity to nominate at least one or two justices during his second term.

Clarence Thomas: 76 (years old)
Samuel Alito: 75
Sonia Sotomayor: 70
John Roberts: 70

The other Justices are well under 70 years old.

Christian baker punished for refusing lesbian wedding cake asks SCOTUS to close California loophole

Same old. Here we go again! Same playbook!

Why would any homosexual couple want to force any reluctant Christian baker to make a wedding cake for them? There are so many other bakers out there gladly willing to do the job!

If I was forced to do it I would put a pound of salt in the cake 'by accident'!

This is clearly targeted harassment and nasty power politics/lawfare by a minority!

SCOTUS SHOCKER: Sotomayor rejects argument from Justice Jackson

Good joke: President Trump resigns to become a lower court judge to have more power than as a sitting president.

Supreme Court allows Trump to resume mass layoffs; again Justice Jackson dissents from ‘senseless’ decision

The first black woman on the court dissents again! Does she make much sense!

When ideology trumps meritocracy you get a Justice like Ms. Brown!

"Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, calling the court’s decision “hubristic and senseless.” She criticized her colleagues for second-guessing the lower judge from the court’s “lofty perch far from the facts or the evidence.”

“In my view, this was the wrong decision at the wrong moment, especially given what little this Court knows about what is actually happening on the ground,” Jackson wrote. ..."

The US Supreme Court in Fall will consider state laws banning transgender women and girls from female school sports teams

Good news! Hopefully, the Justices will restore some semblance of common sense on this issue!

When will this mania and cult of transgenderism become a footnote in history

Men that don't have a vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries shall not participate in women's sports unless the female athletes allow for it. Being able to give birth will not be required.

By the time a male athlete has completed all these changes (aka gender affirming care), he will be too old to compete or his athletic prowess is gone! Caution: satire!

The other solution would be sports events for transgender females/males only! First comers will easily win titles and medals! 😊

"The justices will hear arguments during the term that starts in the fall. Transgender student runners in West Virginia and Idaho challenged the bans they say deny them equal treatment under both federal law and Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination in education.

Last month, the high court rejected arguments that Tennessee’s ban on gender-transition treatments for minors amounted to unconstitutional discrimination."

The Amish Exception: The Story of Wisconsin v. Yoder (a famous US Supreme Court decision)

Recommendable! An example of American Exceptionalism!
Strange, this video did not even mention conscientious objector in the context of the Amish people! Nor did it mention the Quakers nor the Mennonites.
