America’s New ‘Trade for Aid’ Global Health Paradigm

Good news! Why should US foreign aid be without conditions and contingencies?

"As the U.S. negotiates new international aid deals with African governments, a new framework is taking shape—with funding linked directly to trade and geopolitical goals.

The basics: The U.S. has pledged ~$16 billion and signed 14 deals with countries in recent weeks as part of the new “America First” aid strategy. Agreements in the works include:
A $1.5 billion deal with Zambia that is reportedly contingent on mining access
A $2.1 billion deal with Nigeria—made with the condition that the country increase its own health spending and promote Christian faith-based health care providers.
Rerouted funds: The new deals also cut out UN agencies and NGOs, sending money directly to governments.

And still: Overall U.S. aid remains ~50% below 2024 levels. ..."

The Shutdown of U.S.A.I.D. Has Already Killed Hundreds of Thousands. Really!

This piece is most likely despicable propaganda and demagoguery possibly triggered by the Trump Derangement Syndrome!

Maybe, there will be a new agency or the work of the USAID will be reassigned etc.!

"... No warning [???] had been given to the governments that relied on them. It was immediately obvious that hundreds of thousands of people would die in the first year alone [???]. But the Administration did not reconsider; it escalated. Elon Musk exulted in swinging his chainsaw. Within weeks and in defiance of legal mandates, he and Rubio purged U.S.A.I.D.’s staff, terminated more than four-fifths of its contracts, impounded its funds, and dismantled the agency. Neither Congress nor the Supreme Court did anything to stop it. ..."

U.S. and European aid cuts—the first time in decades that France, Germany, the U.K., and the U.S. are all cutting aid at the same time

Concerning! However, it is also time for other countries to increase their foreign aid!

The 22 million + preventable deaths forecast by 2030 is probably is probably largely rubbish! It seems e.g. to be based on a "severe defunding scenario". The underlying study seems to be void of charts and tables, kind of odd!

"22 million people+, including many children, could die from preventable causes by 2030 as a result of U.S. and European aid cuts—the first time in decades that France, Germany, the U.K., and the U.S. are all cutting aid at the same time, per a new analysis submitted to The Lancet Global Health (not yet published, pending peer review). ..."

China slowly steps in to fill foreign aid vacuum left by Trump

Good news! Pecunia non olet! (money does not stink)

Where are the Europeans when you need them? When is India stepping up?

Let the Chinese communists find out and experience how foreign aid sometimes can be tricky business!

"Sweeping U.S. cuts to humanitarian and development assistance have left multilateral institutions and nongovernmental organizations reeling, but China is beginning to step into the void left by the Donald Trump administration, according to key leaders involved in global aid. ..."

Trump admin orders destruction of $10 million in contraceptives earmarked for foreign aid

Food for thought! It is a political decision what constitutes foreign aid and what not! Contraceptives certainly are debatable. Some receiving countries may also view such contraceptives as an interference in their domestic policies etc.
However, destroying these contraceptives is not a good solution!

At least 25 low- and middle-income Countries to budget more for HIV/AIDS measures as U.S. withdraws aid

Good news! President Trump called out the many free rider countries!

Unfortunately, these sources do not report explicitly whether other Western countries stepped up their efforts.

"In the wake of deep cuts in foreign assistance made by President Donald Trump’s administration, at least 25 countries expect to increase their domestic budgets for efforts to treat and prevent HIV infection and AIDS, according to a new report from the United Nations.
Separately, the government of South Africa, the country with the world’s highest number of HIV infections, last week announced a concrete plan to help fill the funding gap. But a close look at that plan suggests the country will still have to massively scale back its response to its epidemic—a harbinger of what many other countries will likely face. ..."

"But the sudden withdrawal of the single biggest contributor to the global HIV response disrupted treatment and prevention programmes around the world in early 2025.
International assistance accounts for 80% of prevention programmes in low- and middle-income countries. ...

Twenty-five of the 60 low- and middle-income countries included in this report have found ways to increase HIV spending from domestic resources into 2026. This is the future of the HIV response—nationally owned and led, sustainable, inclusive and multisectoral. ..."

Entwicklungsministerin Reem Alabali Radovan im Interview: „In vielen Bereichen sind wir der größte Geber“

Gute Nachrichten! Neben der USA müssen andere westliche Länder mehr Verantwortung in der Welt übernehmen.

Trump kürzt die Entwicklungshilfe der USA und Deutschland springt ein? Gut so!

Gut so!

African countries thank Trump for cutting aid as a wake-up call

It has been known and discussed for at least several decades that Western aid to developing countries can be counterproductive.

"... Steep aid cuts from some of the world’s biggest donors, particularly America, are blowing holes in African health budgets as Washington, London, Paris and others slash their assistance spending. ...

“[African nations] must stand on their own,” South Africa’s health minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, told the Telegraph on the sidelines of the G20 health summit in Durban.

“This message is to say please stand on your own, because no country can depend forever on another country. It’s a wake up call. ...

Similar sentiments have been voiced in other African capitals.

I want to thank Mr Trump actually, I think he’s slapped us not on one cheek but on both cheeks, we should have been hammered a long time ago,” Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema said. His country was receiving £460m ($600m) in aid a year from the US.

Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s president, has used the crisis to repeat his criticism of how aid  undermines sovereignty.

“Whoever gives you aid controls your life,” he said earlier this month.

Meanwhile Nigeria has said it refuses to beg. ..."

Senate advances $95 billion foreign aid legislation in rare Sunday vote on Superbowl Sunday

What a historic moment!

Putin the Terrible must be gnashing with his teeth! When will the lethargic, apathetic, and slavish Russian people finally get rid of their last czar, the megalomaniac and war criminal Putin the Terrible! How many more young Russian men have to die or be maimed because Putin the Terrible has conducted a “special military operation” since February of 2022!

"... The 67-27 procedural vote Sunday brings the chamber closer to a vote on a $95 billion aid package, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, $4.8 billion for the Indo-Pacific and $9 billion in humanitarian assistance in Gaza, the West Bank and Ukraine, per The Hill.  ..."
