Is World War III Coming? A British Lord explains

Very recommendable! We live in dangerous times as my blog attests to! Thank God, I am not the only one warning of a possibly impending World War III if humanity is not careful!

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
George Santayana

Some of the premises of this author are questionable or dubious (e.g. Trump Derangement Syndrome and adoration of Putin the Terrible in form of "Putinism"). The title of his article is a sign of lack of candor!

The author, i.e. Lord Daniel Hannan, omitted to discuss how close we currently might be to a World War III given the Russo-Ukraine War and the Iran War (see my blog posts regarding label World War III).

"Countries do not slide into war. They collapse into it suddenly, unexpectedly, incredulously.

“I had grown up in the optimistic belief that major wars were a thing of the past,” the philosopher Bertrand Russell recalled of the 1914—1918 cataclysm. “When I heard the news of the war, I felt as if a curtain had been torn aside and the world revealed itself as a dark and terrible place.” ...

the Austrian novelist Stefan Zweig wrote. “It is as if the world has gone mad.”

I am becoming morosely convinced that a major global conflict is gathering head and that we will be caught as much off-guard as our ancestors were at the start of the 20th century. ...

Like them, we have been lulled by three generations of peace. Not total peace, obviously. Just as in their day, we expect occasional wars in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and sometimes, the remote parts of Europe. But, much as they had not known an all-out conflict since the end of the Napoleonic wars a century before ...

Globalization is indeed a check on bellicosity. Free trade makes waging war both less rewarding (why fight to control assets when everyone can buy them at the same price?) and more costly (the disruption to a belligerent’s economy is more severe). ...

We are seeing a similar swing today. More trade barriers have been erected than removed every year since 2008. The difference is that, this time, the chief defender and beneficiary of the global order, the U.S., has itself turned protectionist, and in the most aggressive way. This time, the rush to autarky has come before the conflict rather than accompanying it. ..."

Doomsayers Finally Run Out Of Minutes

To quote from above article (emphasis added):
“The board that runs the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) has decided to move the minute hand on its symbolic Doomsday Clock 2 minutes closer to disaster. The clock now shows 3 minutes before midnight because the “probability of global catastrophe is very high” as a result of continuing climate change and efforts to modernize nuclear weapons stockpiles.”

Humans Have Been In Love With Apocalypse For Ages

There are too many Cassandras in this world and since ancient times. Which one is right? Human ingenuity trumps!

On The Purported Collapse of Western Civilization

Posted: 8/2/2014

Trigger

Just read the review “Destination: Doom  Professor’s novella imagines a world done in by climate change” about Prof. Naomi Oreskes (Harvard Professor of the History of Science)  latest book titled “The Collapse of Western Civilization”.

“In crafting their cautionary tale, Oreskes and co-author Erik Conway of the California Institute of Technology relied heavily on scientific predictions of what is likely to happen by the turn of the century should the world not pick up the pace in responding to climate change.”

A Professor On A Mission

I would claim she is certainly no scientist, but she is a professor at one of the elite universities of the U.S.

Her infamous article “The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change” (Science 306: 1686, published in 2004) has been widely cited and recited, but it has long been debunked.

In 2010 she published a book titled “Merchants of Doubt” wherein she tackled the alleged links between the tobacco wars and climate change denial as if these two were easily comparable.

A Culmination Of Alarmism And Panic Mongering

This would be my summary of this book (I admit, I never read it)! Her modus operandi is the louder and shriller the more attention.

The professor is a wannabe Cassandra!

Students beware, save your money!

Watch Out For The Robotides Or Modern Luddites Against Robots

Parade Of Horribles

I have been reading articles lately that suggest that the impending revolution of smart, save robots will displace human labor at an unprecedented large scale in business and at home.

Cassandra Vs. Luddites

Like so many Luddites of the past they will be proven wrong. Cassandras are few, Luddites are many. Cassandra was later murdered; Luddites go on to spread their views.

A New Symbiosis And A Revolution Of Relationships

Personal robots will make our lives so much better in so many ways. The thought of it is incredible. I wish, I was born in the future. Robots that will do all your daily chores, be your personal trainer, chef, masseuse, and so on.

We need large numbers of robots. How about a robot for everyone? Who will program them? Who will maintain them? Robots? Ultimately, it will be humans building new and better robots etc.

This will be the next major stage of human evolution. Going far beyond the limits of nature …
