Golden Dome dangers: An arms control expert explains how Trump’s missile defense threatens to make the US less safe. Really!

The author (a Harvard University professor) of this article seems to be a mouthpiece of a stooge for Putin the Terrible  and Xi Jinping!

He seems to be awfully stuck in Cold War thinking! However, he apparently did not understand that President Reagan's peace through strength helped to bring down the USSR and end the Cold War. The USSR was too dilapidated by communism to be able to compete. Russia under former KGB agent Putin the Terrible does not look much better!

He believes, among other things, that the Golden Dome would trigger another arms race. China and Russia would develop more offensive systems and so on.

First of all, a missile defense system is a defensive measure and can not be used offensively. This professor seems to ignore that fact!

Very likely, the aging Putin the Terrible (age 72) will not survive the Russo-Ukrainian War. Will the next Russian president be as belligerent and megalomaniac as Putin the Terrible? Maybe not!

"... I’m a national security and foreign policy professor at Harvard University, where I lead “Managing the Atom,” the university’s main research group on nuclear weapons and nuclear energy policies. For decades, I’ve been participating in dialogues with Russian and Chinese nuclear experts – and their fears about U.S. missile defenses have been a consistent theme throughout. ...

Trump’s goals for Golden Dome are likely beyond reach. A wide range of studies makes clear that even defenses far more limited than what Trump envisions would be far more expensive and less effective than Trump expects, especially against enemy missiles equipped with modern countermeasures. Countermeasures include multiple warheads per missile, decoy warheads and warheads that can maneuver or are difficult to track, among others. ..."

UAE, Bahrain, Morocco seek Israeli missile defense systems

Good and highly unusual news! The Abraham Accords keep on giving!

Former enemies for decades want to acquire some of the best defense systems from their former foe?
Is the former foe willing to equip former enemies with some of its best defense systems?

Very recently, Germany also came to visit Israel and wanted to acquire the Arrow system.

UAE, Bahrain, Morocco seek Israeli missile defense systems - Globes Iron Dome, the Green Pine radar system and the Arrow system for defense against ballistic missiles, were mentioned at the Negev foreign ministers summit as possible procurements.

German delegation in Israel to discuss Arrow procurement

A country that once was a major weapons developer, but became engulfed e.g. in the climate and coronavirus hysteria has to shop for the latest defense weapons in Israel!

At least the reality shock of the Russian war of aggression against the Ukraine was finally woken up the government and members of parliament in Germany.

German delegation in Israel to discuss Arrow procurement - Globes Bundestag defense committee chair Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann told DPA, "The Israelis have working systems and everything must be done quickly."

US Army decides to buy U.S. Dynetics Enduring Shield instead of Israel's Iron Dome interceptor system

This could be a momentous decision! Have you ever heard of the Dynetics Enduring Shield system? Where is it deployed and actively used in war zones?

Pentagon’s New Missile Interceptor Could Be a Game-Changer for ICBM Defense

Good news! This missile interceptor is not land based, but ship-launched!

"... The SM-3 Block IIA interceptor can launch from Aegis-equipped Navy destroyers or from Aegis Ashore missile defense systems, and is designed to intercept theater-range missiles. ...
Despite what they will charge, an underlay of SM-3 interceptors simply cannot defend against Russia’s and China’s advanced arsenals, whose sizes alone can overwhelm U.S. homeland defense. Especially as Russia and China hypocritically advance missile interceptors of their own ..."

Missile Interceptor Could Be a Game-Changer for National Defense In the wee hours of Nov. 17, as Americans slept, the U.S. Navy and the Missile Defense Agency successfully shot down an intercontinental-range ballistic missile using the Navy’s Standard Missile SM-3 Block IIA interceptor launched from a Navy destroyer.

The Iron Dome Is A Vindication For President Reagan

Posted: 7/27/2014

Ronald Reagan would probably be delighted if he was able to learn what the Israeli anti missile defense system has accomplished since its deployment in 2011.

Back in his days as U.S. President, Ronald Reagan was ridiculed for his so called Star Wars (Strategic Defense Initiative).

Well, it was the Heritage Foundation, who triggered me to write this blog post. See their article “American’s Should Take Notes on Israel’s Iron Dome”. However, I had the idea for this post even before I started reading this article, because the allusion to Ronald Reagan was obvious.

This article also quoted the Gipper (emphasis added):

“What if free people could live secure in the knowledge that their security did not rest upon the threat of instant U.S. retaliation to deter a Soviet attack, that we could intercept and destroy strategic ballistic missiles before they reached our own soil or that of our allies? I know this is a formidable technical task, one that may not be accomplished before the end of this century. . . . But isn’t it worth every investment necessary to free the world from the threat of nuclear war? We know it is.”
