Good news! Thanks Mr. Bunch (age 73)! Time for retirement?
I suspect, he too was a DEI choice (first black American etc.).
His professional career is not impressive at all. Apparently his research focus was almost exclusively the history of black Americans. He published very few publications.
One of his publications of 2019 is titled "Bunch, Lonnie G. (2019). A Fool's Errand: Creating the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the age of Bush, Obama, and Trump. Washington, DC: Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press. " There is certainly some irony here.

US Border Patrol Arrests 95 Illegal Alien Truck Drivers In Yuma - AZ during four days in August with 82 of them having Commercial Drivers Licenses from CA & NY

"Federal authorities arrested 95 commercial truck drivers identified as illegal aliens during a multi-agency enforcement operation in Arizona’s Yuma Sector, with more than three-quarters carrying commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by California.
The U.S. Border Patrol conducted the operation with local law enforcement partners from Aug. 10 through Aug. 14, resulting in 143 arrests involving individuals from 18 countries, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Of the 95 truck drivers arrested, 76 possessed California CDLs, while six held licenses issued by New York. CBP said the remaining licenses came from other states but did not identify them individually. ..."

What is the training of large models on copyrighted material (intellectual property)? Fair use or pirating? This answer to this question becomes very urgent.
The statutory damages asked for by plaintiffs could easily bankrupt Anthropic or any other company involved in model training.
I again strongly suggest to reform intellectual property rights. They are effective for way too many years! E.g. books and songs in the US, they "last for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years." (Google search) This is insane!!!

National Emergency: Protecting America’s Power Grid from foreign sabotage and cyber attacks
It seems the reported cyber attacks on water treatment plants and electric power system were more serious!
"On August 26, President Trump declared a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act [of 1977] to secure the United States bulk-power system from foreign sabotage and cyberattack. The executive order cites foreign actors — including state-sponsored adversaries — creating and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities across America’s electricity infrastructure, threatening national defense, emergency services, and economic stability.
The order generally prohibits foreign-produced bulk-power equipment and associated software, and directs the Secretary of Energy to publish implementing rules.
A prior complementary order already preserved an estimated 17,000 megawatts of generating capacity — enough to power 12.75 million American homes. The emergency declaration extends that protection across the full bulk-power supply chain, complementing other administration orders targeting AI cybersecurity, defense supply chains, and drone imports."
