Britain becomes first country in Europe to approve lab-grown meat, but it's dog food

Good news! What a relief it is for pet food! (Pardon my bad joke!)

"Britain has become the first country in Europe to approve lab-grown meat, paving the way for cultivated chicken to be sold in pet stores as early as this year..."

In world first, Israel approves lab-grown beef steaks for public sale

Bon appetit! When will the first steakhouse open near you?

"This is the first time that non-chicken cultivated meat has been approved for market anywhere in the world and the first time that any form of cultivated meat has been authorized for sale in the entire Middle East.  ...
Rehovot-based Aleph Farms grows proteins from the cell cultures that are the building blocks of the Aleph Cuts steaks.

The first product to go on sale will reportedly be the Petit Steak, made from the cells of a Black Angus cow together with a plant protein mix made from soy and wheat.  ..."

World's largest cultured meat factory takes shape in the US

Getting closer to personalized synthetic optimized food to promote health, taste, and performance!

"Israeli cultured meat outfit Believer Meats, known formerly as Future Meat, is looking to play a pivotal role in the availability of lab-grown meat products, and a new facility under construction in the US should help these efforts along.  ...
It says ground was broken on the facility yesterday in Wilson, North Carolina, which will cover 200,000 square feet (18,500 sq m) once completed to become the largest cultivated meat production center in the world. ...
Believer Meats says once it becomes operational, the facility will have the capacity to produce at least 10,000 metric tons of cultivated meat, (presumably an annual figure), pending regulatory approval.  ..."

Dining at The World's Largest Synthetic Meat Factory

Very recommendable! Don't feel upside down watching this video! 😄 Visit the Upside Foods meat production facility with the CEO of the company Uma Valeti! The CEO claims his whole family eats synthetic meat and his dog.
It is not like cutting tofu!
The company plans to produce various meat products using biotechnology to induce stem cells to differentiate into muscle tissue, and to manufacture the meat products in bioreactors. (Source)

Israeli company Aleph Farms makes 3-D-printed ribeye steak

The news about Israel becoming a country, where alternatives to animal meat are developed keep coming. Do you buy or eat the hype or both? 😃

Today, I just blogged here about the Future Meat company. Before that about another 3D printed meat produced by the RedefineMeat company here.

"... The Israeli company Aleph Farms announced Tuesday that it had produced the world’s first “slaughter-free steak,” using a mix of 3-D printing technology and real cow cells. ...
Faculty at the country’s famed Technion-Israel Institute of Technology aided in the process ...
The “bio-printing” phenomenon takes live cells and replicates them to mimic a natural organism or product. Aleph Farms’ technology is in demand, and the company is partnering with Mitsubishi to bring its meat alternative to Japan.
The world’s first lab-grown meat restaurant opened in Tel Aviv last year, serving exclusively chicken made by a company called SuperMeat. ..."

Future Meat Raises $27M For Lab-Grown Meat Production

If it is not just hype, then Israel is fast advancing into alternatives to animal meat! Yesterday, I blogged here about 3D printed meat produced and tested in Israel.

"... Future Meat was founded in 2018 and has advanced the cost-efficient, GMO-free production of meat directly from animal cells, without the need to raise or harvest animals. In addition to chicken, the company is also working on cultured lamb kebabs and beef burgers. ...
Future Meat’s process uses the rapid growth of connective tissue cells, called fibroblasts, to reach high densities before turning the cells to cultured muscle and healthy fats. The company says it aims to introduce hybrid products – combining plant proteins for texture and cultured fats that create the distinct aroma and flavor of meat. ..."

Israel gets first taste of 3D printed meat and likes it

Bon Appetit!

"... Barely three years later, Redefine Meat is poised to be the first “alt-meat” of its kind on the market, following what it says is the largest-scale public blind-tasting of plant-based meat. ...
As a result, Best Meister formed a strategic partnership with Redefine Meat and will distribute the products commercially to Israeli restaurants and high-end butchers in the next few months.
This will be the first 3D-printed vegan “meat” on the market, and the company intends to take it global. ..."

Cultured meat has been approved for consumers for the first time

Good news! Don't ask how this meat is created! Possibly, cultured meat is a way to go from traditional farming to synthetic foods of the future. What does this approved cultured meat taste like?

"The first lab-grown, or cultured, meat product has been given the green light to be sold for human consumption. In the landmark approval, regulators in Singapore granted Just, a San Francisco–based startup, the right to sell cultured chicken—in the form of chicken nuggets—to the public.
Just had been working with the regulators for the past two years and was formally granted approval on November 26. ... Most cultured meat is made in a similar way. Cells are taken from an animal, often via a biopsy or from an established animal cell line. These cells are then fed a nutrient broth and placed in a bioreactor, where they multiply until there are enough to harvest for use in meatballs or nuggets. A slew of startups have been founded using variations on this approach, in the belief that cultured meat will appeal to flexitarians ..."

Looking Forward To Synthetic Meat

Posted: 5/25/2015

Trigger

Just read “This is the future of meat”. A salient quote from the article: “Professor Mark Post, who is part of the faculty at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, … Two years ago, Post's team of researchers presented their first major discovery in the form of a five-ounce hamburger patty, which was created in a lab, but still was remarkably similar to ones sold on supermarket shelves.”

Here is the professor’s webpage: http://culturedbeef.net/mark-post/

Synonyms: Lab grown meat; in vitro meat; cultured meat

A Salvation To Humanity

  1. A roughly estimated 4 billion humans would like to eat more meat, but can’t
  2. The killing of so many animals for food might become obsolete
  3. And much more

Perhaps, this approach is not working, but I am convinced that humans will develop some form of synthetic meat or synthetic food within the next 20-50 years and thereby significantly reducing humanity's dependence on traditional/conventional agriculture and livestock farming.

The Price Of Lab Grown Meat Is Falling

Apparently, Prof. Post made further progress in reducing the price of lab meat: “Now, Post is working to overcome some of lab-grown meat's biggest obstacles, including its price. And he believes it's only a short matter of time before he succeeds. "It was $350,000 when we first publicized the patty," said Post. "At this point we've already managed to cut the cost by almost 80 percent. I don't think it will be long before we hit our goal of 65 to 70 dollars per kilo."That would drop the five-ounce burger to below $10, a number that Post hopes will eventually drop even further.”
