US Navy stealth Destroyers to get first shipborne hypersonic missiles

What a stealthy move! 😊

"The U.S. Navy is transforming a costly flub into a potent weapon with the first shipborne hypersonic weapon, which is being retrofitted aboard the first of its three stealthy destroyers."

Chinese Light-speed radar can track multiple Mach-20 missiles

Can the West keep up?

Or will the preoccupation with DEI, LGBTQ, Global Warming hoax agenda and other agendas accelerate the downfall of the West? (just a polemical question or not?)

"... team describe ground-based simulations that showed the system could track a missile traveling at almost 4.3 miles (7 km) per second with an error rate of just 11 inches (28 cm). The system was also able to estimate the missile's speed with a 99.7% accuracy rate. It can reportedly operate over a range of 373 miles (600 km). ..."

Light-speed radar can track multiple Mach-20 missiles China has just made another move on the hypersonic missile war game board. An incredibly accurate laser-based radar system has been announced that would be able to track objects ripping through the sky at over four miles per second.

United States says it conducted successful Lockheed's hypersonic missile test

Ah, the U.S. is catching up!

"... The US Air Force said on Tuesday that it had successfully tested an air-launched hypersonic weapon in the Pacific Ocean.
The test was conducted on Sunday after a B-52 bomber left the island of Guam carrying an Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW), the air force said in a statement.
Though the US Air Force called the test a success, it did not disclose the speed at which the weapon flew. In past tests, the ARRW has flown at least five times the speed of sound. ..."

"The U.S. Air Force on Sunday carried out what is expected to be the final test of the hypersonic AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon. The service did not say whether the test was successful. ...
China and Russia have invested heavily in their own hypersonic weapons, and the Pentagon is under pressure from Congress to show more progress toward fielding the United States’ own capabilities. ..."

Russia employs hypersonic superweapon in mid-December against Ukraine for first time in months

Why this weapon is referred to as KILLJOY is despicable!

Is Putin the Terrible trying to escalate this war (e.g. out of desperation)?

"... “On 14 December 2023, the Russian Air Force highly likely carried out the first use of an AS-24 KILLJOY air-launched ballistic missile since August 2023,” the UK Defense Ministry stated. “Russia launched at least one missile into central Ukraine, likely targeting a military airfield.” ..."

Russia employs ‘superweapon’ against Ukraine for first time in months - The Jerusalem Post The AS-24 KILLJOY missile accelerates to Mach 4 (roughly 3,000 miles per hour) after launch and may reach speeds as fast as Mach 10 (roughly 7,673 miles per hour).

Is Russia’s Hypersonic Missile Vulnerable?

Recommendable! The Russian bear is more of a teddy bear! 😊

When will the Russian people finally oust their last czar and megalomaniac war criminal Putin the Terrible! The whole world would be very thankful for it!

"... There is some dispute as to whether the Kinzhal qualifies as a true hypersonic weapon, namely, one that can fly faster than five times the speed of sound (Mach 5) while maintaining the ability to maneuver—a combination of features that supposedly makes the missile immune to existing countermeasures. But just this month the world discovered that the Kinzhal was not immune. It seems, in fact, far from it.

On 6 May Ukrainians shot down a Kinzhal outside Kiev using a Patriot air-defense system, supplied by the United States just weeks before. It was reported that the Kinzhal was specifically targeting that system when it was shot down. Three days later, the Russian military reportedly launched a series of six Kinzhal missiles at Ukrainian sites; the Ukrainians shot down five of the six. The sixth Kinzhal damaged, but did not destroy, a Patriot battery. ..."

Is Russia’s Hypersonic Missile Vulnerable? - IEEE Spectrum Perhaps the right question is whether it’s really hypersonic

A shoulder-fired french missile that can travel over three times the speed of sound is making a comeback after 11 years

Good news, but too slow!

"French defense and technology giant Thales is manufacturing the Starstreak for the first time in 11 years as Ukraine uses it to help repel Russian attacks. It is the latest example of how Ukraine’s demand for weapons, combined with Western governments’ increased military spending, is reviving once inactive production lines. The relaunch could take more than a year, Thales said, underlining how the complexity of manufacturing weapons and industrywide supply-chain issues slow down Western rearmament in the face of rising geopolitical tensions. The British-commissioned Starstreak was designed in the 1980s during the Cold War before entering service the following decade."

Kyiv proves Russia's missile more hype than hypersonic - analysis

Headline of the day! I blogged here yesterday about this incident.

"Ukraine's downing of a Russian Kh-47 Kinzhal missile with an American-made Patriot battery on Thursday indicates that the weapon may be more hype than hypersonic.

The Kinzhal, or "Dagger," drew headlines when it was first used against a Ukrainian target in March 2022 -- ostensibly the first hypersonic weapon to be used in combat.  ..."

Kyiv proves Russia's missile more hype than hypersonic - analysis - The Jerusalem Post While Putin and other Russian officials indicated that the Kinzhal could reach speeds of Mach 10, the NATO report indicated that it could be far slower than that.

Ukraine downs Russian hypersonic missile with US Patriot system near Kiev

If confirmed, this is huge! Could very well mean another demonstration of the superiority of Western weapons! Could be a game changer!
Putin the Terrible terribly miscalculated when he invaded the Ukraine! When will the Russian people oust their last and megalomaniac czar!

China tests hypersonic missile with multi-mode engine

Concerning!

"China is reminding the world that it is very much in the race to deploy hypersonic missiles, with a team at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Northwestern Polytechnical University successfully launching the Feitian-1, a Rocket-Based Combined Cycle (RBCC)-propelled vehicle, in northwestern China. ...
What is particularly interesting about the launch of Feitian-1 is that it uses an RBCC engine to propel it to speeds in excess of Mach 5. An RBCC engine is a combination of an air-breathing ramjet, air-breathing scramjet, and ducted rocket. As the vehicle accelerates, the engine transfers from one mode to the next, allowing it to cope with air hitting the intake at greater and greater speed, and then becoming a pure rocket at top speed and very high altitudes. ..."

Russia says developing next-gen land, air, maritime hypersonic missiles

Recommendable! Sable rattling in times of war! This article also reports on the latest related developments in the U.S.

"Russia is continuing the development of advanced hypersonic weapons, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov told the Russian news outlet Interfax last Monday [5/8/2022].
Next-generation hypersonic missiles
"Work is underway to create a new generation of hypersonic missiles for land, air and sea platforms," Borisov told Interfax. "In terms of their characteristics, they will surpass the existing and future developments of the leading states." ...
Last Tuesday, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced that North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University was given a $500,000 research grant to further the development of hypersonic technology. ...
The US Defense Department budget estimates from the April project that it will have hypersonic, land-launched missile batteries fielded by 2023's financial year. In 2025, it expects to have operational maritime hypersonic weapons, and in 2027 air-launched hypersonic cruise missiles. ..."

Russia says developing next-gen land, air, maritime hypersonic missiles - The Jerusalem Post The maneuverable Kinzhal, flying at more than 10 times the speed of sound, "is really impossible to be intercepted by air defense systems," Russia's deputy prime minister said.
