Book reviews technologies aiming to remove carbon from the atmosphere. Really!

A book about the greatest scams and follies of our time! 😊 And this is published by MIT and not by some obscure publisher?

Plant more trees! When will this pathological obsession with atmospheric CO2 end?

"Two leading experts [of what ???] in the field of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) — Howard J. Herzog, a senior research engineer in the MIT Energy Initiative, and Niall Mac Dowell, a professor in energy systems engineering at Imperial College London — explore methods for removing carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere in their new book, “Carbon Removal.” ..."

How Wind And Solar Are Quietly Inflating Electricity Bills

Recommendable! Similar facts and reasons have been reported over and over for at least the past 20 years or so!

Our ancestors not very long ago abandoned wind power for a reason! Lessons of history unlearned!

How much money was wasted on wind and solar power instead of nuclear power and research into alternative energy supplies like nuclear fusion, hydrogen etc.!

"... Solar and wind’s part-time nature is the root issue. Solar generates nothing at night, little in the first and last hours of daylight, and falters under clouds, rain, or snow. Wind generation varies unpredictably. This intermittency doesn’t just displace fossil fuels like natural gas and coal—it forces them into inefficient backup roles. ..."

Liberia: Next Steps Toward Accountability for War and Economic Crimes or The Growing Problem of Human Rights Fraud by Michael Rubin

Recommendable! About dubious advocacy and special interests!

"... There are three major types of human rights fraud.
The first, and most common, involves corruption of methodology. Too many groups allow subjective embrace and amplification of certain evidence in pursuit of an ideological agenda. ...
The second stream of human rights fraud involves outright falsehood. In July 2017, for example, Human Rights Watch released a report alleging that Rwandan police had murdered a number of petty criminals. The Rwandan government subsequently produced those individuals very much alive. ...
The third stream of human rights fraud involves pay to play and falsification for profit. In 2009, Sarah Leah Whitson, at the time director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East and North Africa division, held a fundraiser in Saudi Arabia in which she and Hassan Elmasry, a member of the organization’s International Board of Directors, suggested a quid pro quo. Human Rights Watch would go easy on Saudi abuses if Saudi businessmen donated to support Human Rights Watch expenses."

‘Turbine graveyards’ sprawled across Texas

Recommendable! What they don't want you to know about the windmill scandal! These turbine blades may have to be replaced as often as two years. Wind power is unreliable and intermittent. It is not environmentally friendly at all! It mass kills wildlife and so on.

MIT: A healthy wind from 70,000 wind turbines installed in America. Really!

I did not think the MIT could go this low with such propaganda and demagoguery! Incredible! Preposterous!

The wind power scam is one of the worst perpetrated by Western governments! Wind mills were abandoned by our foreparents generations ago, because it is unreliable etc. E.g. one always needs reliable backup generator power!

This is also a good example not to trust science just because there is a study published in a prestigious scientific journal! This appears to be clearly a politically motivated study!

The outgoing, controversial President of MIT L. Rafael Reif is to be blamed for this!

Trying to sell a totally unreliable (intermittency & variability) and environmentally unfriendly source of energy that is also a mass killer of birds/bats/insects as beneficial to your health!

What is actually the impact of these 70,000 installed wind turbines in the U.S. in huge wind mill farms on local/regional  weather and climate? How much land or water surface are we willing to sacrifice for this?

How much of the generated power is actually fed into the grid? Officially, wind power in America generates 9.3% or 380b kWh of all generated electricity in 2021. We know for a long time that wind power capacity is a totally misleading metric. I suspect wind power generation is flawed as well!

According to the article: "The team then used a sophisticated atmospheric chemistry model to simulate the wind patterns and chemical transport of emissions across the country ..."
Has anybody vetted this so sophisticated model?

From the abstract:
"... A total of 29% and 32% of these health benefits accrued to racial/ethnic minority and low-income populations respectively ..."

Why renewable energy is the greatest scam of the last 50 years or more

Besides that renewable energy generation is extremely environmentally unfriendly and net emissions over the whole life cycle are dubious at best, it is also very unreliable (e.g. the sun does not shine at night, but electricity consumption is high too at night).

However, the biggest cover up is the unresolved issue of the storage of sufficient generated electrical energy on the scale necessary to ensure and maintain the electric power base load e.g. for a whole country. There is no such technology available today and probably not even in the near future!

How to feed this unreliable renewable energy generation into the electrical power grid is another serious issue of which I am not sure it has been resolved properly.

Worst of all, this demand for renewable energy is based on the demagoguery and dogma of the Global Warming Hoax and Climate Change religion.

Our descendants will look back at our time and convulse in disbelief over so much idiocy!

Retraction of paper on vaccine deaths spurs call for more scrutiny of COVID-19 death reports

I probably have blogged here since about April 2020 that I have serious doubts about the high numbers of deaths supposedly caused by Covid-19! Anybody who died with Covid-19 was counted as having died of Covid-19, which of course has been gross charlatanry!

That this nonsense or hoax or scam was allowed to go on for 1 to 1.5 years is incredible! This pandemic will go down in human history as an epic episode of great human folly and utter ineptitude! Most of our elected politicians and scientific elites have completely failed. As is best exemplified by the highest paid federal bureaucrat and joker, i.e. 80 year old Anthony Fauci of Faucian Bargain fame!

"... "Currently we only have association, we agree, and we never said anything else. But the same is true with fatalities as consequences of SARS-CoV2-infections [sic]," which are "rarely vetted by autopsy or second opinion" to confirm they were caused by the novel coronavirus, rather than incidental to infection.

Brown University epidemiologist Andrew Bostom wasn't impressed by the journal's "baloney" explanation for the retraction, either. "The [vaccine] deaths are as causally related as C19 deaths which allow for any positive test within 30-60 days of a death from any cause to be tallied as a C19 death," he wrote in a Twitter message to Just the News. ..."

We Need to Talk About Public Pension Liabilities

This is indeed very scary and shocking! Between $1-4 trillion unfunded public pension liabilities!

While the private sector has phased out excessively expensive pensions, the public sector has piled on unfunded promises of excessive pensions  thanks to politicians!

"Is your city's pension fund short? Marijuana might help. Local officials are counting on marijuana taxes to help fix their underfunded retirement systems, but the revenue can be unpredictable. "

Is this one of the reasons for promoting legalization of pot?

Prager University: Public Pensions: An Economic Time Bomb

Very recommendable! It's a huge scandal! How politicians buy votes! About the excessive influence of public sector unions!

Public Pensions: An Economic Time Bomb | PragerU: Who cares about public pension liability? Well, you should – after all, it’s the reason entire cities and even states are facing bankruptcy. Joshua Rauh, professor of finance at Stanford and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, paints a startling picture of just how broken the public pension system really is, and what will happen if we continue to ignore it.

The Outrageous Wind Power Scam

Posted: 6/27/2019

Recently, I have blogged here about the The Outrageous Electrical Cars Scam. Let’s have a look at the global scam of wind power generation.

For our purposes here, we will focus on one of the largest onshore wind power farms in the world and the largest wind power farm in the U.S.:
Alta Wind Energy Center (AWEC) in California:
  1. Total capacity: 1,550MWh (this is roughly the continuous output (not capacity) of 1.5 typical U.S. nuclear power reactors; translates into 13,392,000 MWh per year)
  2. Construction started in 2010 and it was completed in 2013 (S1)
  3. “Spread across 3,200 acres in the foothills of the Tehachapi Mountains in Kern County” (S1)
  4. Average electricity generation per year is 3,179,263 MWh (over the period 2014-17; S2)

The scam/boondoggle consists of:
  1. Average production of electricity is only about 24% of total capacity. Or in other words, four times as much capacity of a wind power generation has to be built to compensate for the uncertainty of wind
  2. To generate the total annual electricity consumed in California you would need to build over 48,500 wind turbines (of the AWEC type). This translates into at least 1 wind turbine for every 800 inhabitants of California. For the entire U.S. it would be at least 1 turbine for every 470 inhabitants (It appears that California is more energy efficient than the rest of the U.S. or California does not have as much significant electricity consuming industries)
  3. Ridiculous government subsidies for this form of energy generation

In Germany, even the world famous tree huggers and the zealots of environmentalism have allowed huge areas of natural landscape to be spoiled and ruined by gigantic onshore and offshore wind power farms. Thousands of birds and bats die every year! The sound emissions from wind power farms are probably not entirely harmless. The production and maintenance of these wind mills is by far not environmentally friendly. Beautiful hill tops inside protected forests were sacrificed to the religion of renewable energy. And so on ...

Are there any studies on the influence of large wind power farms on local weather? I would posit that large wind power farms interfere with the flow of air if not more.

Initially, I presumed it was the extraordinary land/area use of wind power farms that would expose the scam, but it turned out it is the per head of population count of wind turbines.

P.S. I meant to add a tableau of figures that were underlying my calculations here, but for lack of time … Hope, my calculations are not completely off.

The Outrageous Electrical Cars Scam

Posted: 6/6/2019  Reviewed/updated: 6/7/2019

Just did a rough back of the envelope calculation on how much electricity production capacity would be needed per annum if all passenger vehicles in the U.S. were to be converted to electrical vehicles in an instant.
The numbers are truly shocking and I can only hope I made a serious calculation error!

Here are the inputs:

Item
Specs
Value
Unit
Electrical passenger vehicle
25 kWh per 100 miles
250
Wh/mile
Nuclear power reactor
1,000 MW capacity
8,640,000,000,000
Wh/year
Transportation
Total U.S. vehicle miles for light duty vehicles in 2017
2,220,801,000,000
miles/year
Notes: 25 KWh per 100 miles is probably a conservative number

Here are the results:

Item
Value
Unit
Estimated total electricity consumption by electrical passenger vehicles
555,200,250,000,000
Wh/year
Estimated required number of 1,000 MW capacity nuclear reactors
64
Count

Summary

Given the 2.2 trillion vehicle miles per year on U.S. streets and highways, we would need about 64 nuclear power reactors with 1,000 MW capacity just to generate the electricity for all the electric passenger vehicles. Currently, there are only a total of 98 operating nuclear power plants in the U.S.!

P.S. I did a double check calculation on a daily basis instead of per annum and the results were very similar, i.e. more than 60 nuclear power reactors with a capacity of 1000 MW would be needed to power all electric passenger vehicles.
