Startup Newlight Marine Technologies is fuel-injecting hydrogen to make cargo ships more efficient

Good news!

Remember the Hindenburg disaster of 1937!

Notice the website of Newlight Marine Technologies does not feature this news, but only outdated news from 2025. The company emphasises too much decarbonization and reduction in emissions.

"... The small team based in the San Francisco Bay Area has developed this hydrogen injection system as a retrofit, which it claims can be installed in less than two weeks without needing a dry dock. It cuts fuel use and emissions by more than 20%, and can save some vessels as much as $500,000 in annual costs, according to the startup.

Newlight does this by constantly monitoring the diesel engine and finding optimal moments, down to the millisecond level, to inject the hydrogen fuel. That includes measuring exhaust temperature, combustion pressure, and air intake pressure, and increasing or decreasing the hydrogen flow every time a piston moves inside the engine’s cylinders. ...

The startup says this hybrid system has completed its first long-range commercial voyage: an 8,500-nautical mile trip from Singapore to Ghana. Newlight installed its tech on a 650-foot-long Lomar Shipping bulk carrier ship for the test. The startup said its system reduced fuel consumption by 24% and carbon dioxide emissions by 28%. ...

The company claims it has signed agreements to put the hydrogen injection system on 12 vessels across multiple companies with “broader fleet rollouts planned for next year.” ..."

Kernkraft statt Schweröl: Renaissance der Atomfrachter

Gute Nachrichten!

Small Modular Reactor Nuclear Power: Decarbonizing Commercial Shipping

Good news! From navy to commercial shipping!

"... To overcome this, the consortium behind the NuProShip II project is looking at how to fit Gen IV small modular nuclear reactors to heavy commercial vessels. The project’s demonstrator concept is based on a 120-m (394-ft) Vard 3 offshore subsea construction vessel, designed by Fincantieri subsidiary Vard. ..."

SMR Nuclear Power: Decarbonizing Commercial Shipping "Nuclear power isn't just for naval ships anymore as demonstrated by the Nuclear Propulsion in merchant Shipping (NuProShip II) project led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology which is looking at fitting nuclear reactors to heavy-duty commercial vessels."

NuProShip II – Pioneering the future of sustainable Marine Propulsion with Nuclear reactors "... VARD ... presents results of the research and innovation project NuProShip II. NuProShip II marks a significant milestone in the development of sustainable marine technology, exploring the integration of small 4th generation nuclear reactors into specialized offshore vessels."

US seizes oil tanker with Russian flag linked to Venezuela: report

Trump is on a mission and means business! Hurt Putin the Terrible where it hurts most!

Donroe doctrine?

"The reported seizure in the North Atlantic concludes a weeks-long chase, two U.S. officials told NBC News. One of the officials said that the ship has been secured, and the Department of Homeland Security is leading the operation with the support from the U.S. military.

The tanker, which changed its name from the Bella 1 to the Marinera, was initially pursued last month by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of Venezuela last month. ..."

Will the Thai Canal finally be built? How eager is China? Will Japan support it?

I must admit either I forgot or I never heard of this major civil engineering project that could well compete with the Panama Canal or Suez Canal!

"The Thai Canal .. also known as the Kra Canal ... or the Kra Isthmus Canal ..., is any of several proposals for a canal that would connect the Gulf of Thailand with the Andaman Sea across the Kra Isthmus in southern Thailand. Such a canal is suggested to significantly reduce travel times through heavily-navigated trade routes.

The canal would provide an alternative to transit through the Strait of Malacca and shorten transit for shipments of oil to Japan and China by 1,200 km. China refers to it as part of its 21st century maritime Silk Road. Proposals, as of 2015, measure 102 kilometres long, 400 meters wide and 25 meters deep. ...

A canal through the Kra Isthmus, which would shorten shipping times around Asia, was suggested as early as 1677. Thai King Narai asked the French engineer de Lamar to survey the possibility of building a waterway to connect Songkhla with Marid (now Myanmar), but the idea was discarded as impractical with the technology of that time. ..."

Chinese state-owned shipping giant COSCO to stop visiting Israeli ports

The axis of (evil) power (Russia, China, Iran) is on the move again!

Did the Chinese communists also tell the senile, demented, and corrupt 46th U.S. President better not to intervene more forcefully against a bunch Houthi militants threatening global maritime trade? What do the communists know about him and his clan!

Or maybe China did not have to, because the sleepy, flaccid leader of the free world was vacationing again to please his First Lady Dr. Jill and longtime partner in crime could get a suntan and he could draw some lines in the sand between naps!

"Chinese state-owned shipping giant COSCO Shipping has stopped visiting Israeli ports, "Globes" has learned. The company, the fourth largest container shipping line in the world, with about 11% of world trade, decided on this step even though it is not much threatened in the Red Sea, because of the very fact that it is Chinese, and because of China’s ties with Iran, the patron of the Houthi rebels in Yemen. ..."

Maritime nations agree to cut emissions to make shipping greener. Really!

What a nonsense! According to this report, global shipping contributes only 3% of total worldwide CO2 emissions! Hopefully, these are the last throes of the Global Warming hoax and the Climate Change religion! It is becoming more obvious by the day, what human folly this is!
