EU Commission Wants To Prohibit Disposable Plastic Bags

As Reported

The EU Commission wants to either tax or prohibit the use of disposable plastic bags as reported e.g. here. In particular, EU Commission aims its measure at clear plastic bags to wrap fruits or vegetables.

Pseudo Rationalization By Statists
  • Plastic bags are not being properly disposed of now reused.
  • Plastic bags decompose or rot only very slowly.
  • Plastic bags end up in rivers and oceans where they kill animals.

I would posit that plastic bags are more often reused than these busybody politicians and environmentalists want us to believe.

Why do governments not pay for more research to develop plastic bags that decompose faster? Why don’t we have yet bacteria that eat plastic bags for desert and excreting valuable resources.

How many animals are killed by plastic bags per year? For environmentalists and animal rights activists one animal is one to many.

If plastic bags or other plastic remains end up in oceans would it not be better to finance a clean-up instead of authoritarian measures like this?
