Human Genome Project Revisited

From Planning To Finish In Almost 20 Years

Wikipedia is again my primary source here. Cost of this project at least $3 billion. This project was largely funded and managed by big government.

Hypothesis

With less big government involvement:
  1. This project would have taken only 10-15 years and it would perhaps have cost less.
  2. Humanity would probably already enjoy more benefits coming out of such a significant project.

With prestigious, large scale projects like Apollo or Human Genome Project we are easily led to believe that without big government this would not be possible or could not be done any better.

This is wrong!

Conclusion

For future, major projects we should keep big government as much as possible out of it and let the private sector and academia handle it.
