‘Game-changing’ gender quotas introduced by Australian medical research agency. Really!

Australia quo vadis? I just blogged here about the cherry picking with gender quotas! Meritocracy sacrificed to gender equity demagoguery!

This new Australian Prime Minister Albanese seems to be troublesome (see also my post here).

Please note that women are treated the same as non-binary persons and they have to compete with non-binary researchers! Absurd!

I trust this unlawful nonsense/demagoguery will be quickly defeated in court!

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) announced the move last week. It will apply to researchers at the mid-career and senior level applying for the agency’s investigator grants, which fund research and salaries. Grants will also be fixed at Aus$400,000 (US$252,000) each a year for five years. Many countries struggle to achieve gender equity in research funding, and the NHRMC will be one of the first agencies to introduce gender quotas at this scale, say researchers. ..."

"... From 2023, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) will award equal numbers of Investigator Grants to women and men in a new intervention to address gender inequities in research funding. ...
The new initiative will see NHMRC introduce a special measure under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 and set targets to fund an equal number of Leadership grants for women and men in the Investigator Grant scheme. ...
For the first time, non-binary researchers will also be explicitly included in this and other measures to foster gender equity in NHMRC funding, recognising the systemic disadvantage that they experience. ..."
