The road to making birth control pills over-the-counter in the U.S.

Good news! This is certainly one powerful antidote to many unnecessary abortions! 

We have now over five decades of large scale experience and statistical data on birth control pills. If taken responsibly, they pose little harm.

Why does it depend on insurance companies whether they cover it or not??? Are some birth control pills not out of patent protection? Any generic birth control pill could be produced cheaply in Western countries or in India or elsewhere.

One of the few recent examples where the Democratic Party (aka Dimocratic Party) might be doing something right! 😊

Why it matters: Health experts say making HRA Pharma's Opill pill available without a prescription will prevent more unwanted pregnancies, and the need for abortions. But that hinges on whether insurers will cover it and whether the drugmaker, part of the consumer products giant Perrigo, makes it affordable to those paying out of pocket.

Driving the news: FDA advisers will meet on Nov. 18 to review the application for Opill, which has been available with a prescription in the U.S. since 1973. ..."
