Cryptographic “tag of everything” could protect the supply chain

Good news! Counterfeiting of pharmaceutical products or spare parts is a serious, costly and prevalent threat!

Would criminals still not be able remove or obtain those tags and attach them to counterfeit items?
Would it not be better to integrate inseparably counterfeiting measures into a product?

Cryptographic “tag of everything” could protect the supply chain | MIT News: To combat supply chain counterfeiting, MIT researchers invented a cryptographic ID tag to replace radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags powered by photovoltaics, operates in terahertz frequencies, and is small enough to fit on and verify authenticity of any product.
