"The Secret Service uncovered a massive illegal telecom network near the UN General Assembly meeting in New York. Officials say it could have caused “catastrophic” disruptions if activated.
Agents seized more than 300 SIM servers and over 100,000 SIM cards, which officials say could have been used to jam 911 calls, knock out cell towers, or flood networks with up to 30 million text messages per minute.
Investigators are still piecing together who’s behind it, but suspects include foreign governments, organized crime groups, and independent terrorist organizations.
Similar setups have reportedly been found in California and the Midwest. While no direct plot against the UN General Assembly has been identified, officials are treating the case as a major security threat."
