It's Labor Day weekend and in one of the top five premier luxury shopping malls in Arizona under Macerich Comany (Stock symbol: MAC) management roughly half of the escalators (some of them critical) throughout the mall are out of order or in repair! Customer traffic this Labor Day weekend was very brisk beginning on Friday. You could sense that customers came out to shop and have some good times after an over 18 months long pandemic. Escalator service calls for the several of the newly out of order escalators were scheduled for Tuesday (9/7)! Some of the escalators have been out of order for several months! Such ignorance by a premier shopping mall management team is astounding!
There a number of other strong and significant indications (e.g. on weekends the entire Macerich mall management team appears to be absent, on Fridays they leave very early) that this mall under Macerich management has been neglected for an extended period of time.
Why all the international/European luxury article stores in that mall put up with this is amazing! Either they are blissfully unaware or what?
About Macerich in their own words (Please do not laugh! 😄):
"Macerich is a leading owner, operator and developer of top retail and mixed-use destinations in major U.S. markets (NYSE:MAC). With our much-admired portfolio of market-dominant properties, Macerich is shaping the future of retail real estate. Adding value to our Class A assets with a smart mix of brands, experiences and new uses is a hallmark of our approach. We are the industry’s leader in environmental sustainability, a priority we share with shoppers and retailers in our forward-thinking communities."
In my opinion, the management team of this mall deserves to be fired instantly and summarily!
