This video explains very well why Emile Durkheim and this work has faded away without many people ever having heard of him or it. His views were very one sided and narrow minded!
The video explicitly discusses his book Suicide. Most of it is debunked. It was also not a criticism of capitalism or the new age of industrialization, but contrasting catholics and protestants with respect to their suicide rates.
