For at least three historical reasons:
- "Russia owned Alaska as a territory known as Russian America from 1799 to 1867. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States." (Google search result)
- They meet at a "military base [Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage] in Alaska that was crucial to countering the Soviet Union during the height of Cold War and still plays a role today."
- Then there is the International Criminal Court arrest warrant on Putin the Terrible since March 2023
Seems to be a well balanced choice for a meeting! 😊
