Today's MIT Technology Review news e-mail contained some food for thought on the emergence of individual digital personas.
Be anything you can be or do anything you can imagine! They say cats have nine lives, you could have hundreds of lives or more! 😄
Could a digital persona have an infinite life span surviving the human creator by many years, millennia ...? Imagine!
What about simulating your life with an avatar to your hearts content? Every time you need to make an important decision you could try to simulate different scenarios or outcomes etc.
Unfortunately, the term body dysmorphia is associated with the Body dysmorphic disorder! I don't think this is very fitting!
"... The digital me: Gamers have used avatars for decades. But how we use them becomes more complicated when we expect them to act as representations of ourselves. In interviews or meetings, this self-presentation might play a far more consequential role.
The next level: Hyper-personalization could also allow avatars to realistically portray the lived experience of millions of people who have thus far found the technology limiting. But people might also create avatars that are idealized, unhealthy versions of themselves. What happens if the avatar you present isn’t who you are? Does it matter? ..."
This is the article: The metaverse is the next venue for body dysmorphia Some people are excited to see realistic avatars that look like them. Others worry it might make body image issues even worse.
