Johns Hopkins University: U.S. Road Deaths Rise. Really!

Don't you love propaganda and demagoguery? Like this one disseminated by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: Global Health NOW daily newsletter.

To compare 2021 to 2020 is as bad as it gets! Single year to single year comparisons are in general already very troubling, but use the pandemic year 2020 as the base is a really bad face effort! It does not get much worse! Maybe a moving average over several years base would have been more appropriate!

Could it also be that drivers are getting more distracted thanks to smart phones, social media etc. Tweeting beats honking! 😄 This would call e.g. for the widespread introduction of autonomous driving vehicles?

"US traffic deaths last year increased to nearly 43,000—a 10.5% jump over 2020’s numbers, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimate released Tuesday.
The increase in deaths followed a 11.2% leap in total US driving miles to about 325 billion miles, Bloomberg reports.
Increases from 2020 to 2021:
Urban road fatalities rose 16% to 25,411.
Multivehicle crashes increased 16%.
Pedestrian fatalities were up by 13%."
