In response to a fairly harmless, but highly contagious disease, many governments of Western countries have resorted to a barrage of constantly changing restrictive measures interfering with the freedoms of their citizens.
Latest since about June 2020 it became clear how harmless this pandemic is and which groups of people are particularly vulnerable to the disease (e.g. the very old and/or immunocompromised). Since December 2020 and early 2021, we have several new and effective vaccines available! Meanwhile, over 4.3 billion doses of the vaccine have been administered worldwide. Herd immunity has been already attained in the U.S. and probably Germany. We also have seen reports that in particular the older citizens in Western countries have been vaccinated at perhaps levels of 60% and much higher. Why this is not reported more widely is strange. We are also noticing that the large number of recovered is rarely mentioned even so each recovered person is naturally immunized!
The way unvaccinated citizens are singled out, ostracized, and demonized in Western countries is absolutely horrible. Why Western governments allow this kind of primitive nativist urges to go on is beyond belief. In Germany, they even use the world Sozialschädlinge (social pests) for these citizens. Reminiscent of the language of Joseph Goebbels!
Instead of focusing on these vulnerable population groups, Western governments continue to apply one size fits all measures to the entire population. A slight increase in the reported new Covid-19 case numbers are used to justify the imposition of new restrictions etc. Even though, there are actually some serious and credible doubts about how accurate these diagnostics are (e.g. are they not oversensitive to the presence of viral material). Western governments have not come out to define herd immunity! Thus, for several months now we have ridiculous and often pointless public discussions about is herd immunity attained at 67% or 75% or 80% etc. If common sense is any guide, then 67% or higher constitutes herd immunity.
To a large extend Western media are complicit in this again and again! Instead of investigating, they have become government mouthpieces!
The many dictators of the world, prominent among them Putin the Terrible and the last emperor Xi Jinping, are laughing their butt off! Too bad, they don't die laughing! I bet they tell any Western politician in private conversations something like you want to lecture me, who are you trying to fool!
Why so many of our elected representatives show so little effort to put an end to this is very disturbing! Too many of these elected representatives are life long career politicians without much common sense and they are too distant from reality!
Never in my wildest dreams, I would have imagined such long time sustained widely applied restrictions to be applied by any Western liberal democracy!
