Richard Wagner still ostracized?

I am not an expert on Richard Wagner. My knowledge about his life and work is very cursory! One thing seems to be certain from his biography, he was a complicated and complex human being living over 70 years with lots of twists and turns.

Long after his death, the Nazis appropriated him for their genocidal demagoguery! It appears that the reception or appreciation of Richard Wagners impressive opus still suffers from it!

P.S. This blog post was triggered today by my sudden interest in Wagner's Götterdämmerung. So I looked up the English and German language subject entries on Wikipedia. I came away that besides describing the music itself not much else is said about the importance or relevance of this work.
