Wild megalopolis: Study shows unexpected pockets of biodiversity pepper Los Angeles. Really!

Humans not only destroy nature, they also create new living spaces for wild animals and insects etc.! Where wild life can adopt and co-evolve! Also called symbiosis!

Reminder, thanks to e.g. plenty of available food etc. and due to e.g. lack of natural predators there are perhaps even too many e.g. birds proliferating in urban areas etc. Or in other words an overpopulation issue.

How do you like e.g. bird droppings on your car roof and other places. Do you know how big geese droppings are? In some urban areas these are frequent occurrences.

What about birds as disease carriers?

Turning cities into more inviting natural habitats for animals and insects seems appealing, but it is naive and be aware of the unintended consequences!

"Key takeaways
UCLA researchers, in partnership with the city of Los Angeles, have developed the urban association index to help identify how well or poorly individual wildlife species are doing in the city.
The researchers found unexpected pockets of biodiversity deep in the city, but they say it will still be a challenge to elevate Los Angeles’ overall level of biodiversity.
The research points toward ways Angelenos — and people elsewhere — can make their city more hospitable not only to urban-tolerant species but also to species that usually avoid cities. [???]
