The old president of Turkey (age 69) is busy again! Is he just bluffing or posturing? Lately, Turkey (former Ottoman empire) has tried to become a global player (e.g. negotiations with Russia about Ukraine grain exports and more).
Brexit is a shining example how to deal with an evermore centralized, Procrustean, and hegemonic EU!
I believe, this is not the first time that Turkey threatened to leave the EU. However, in the past those threats were easily dismissed as grandstanding given the significant dependence of Turkey on EU money etc.
"Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Ankara could "part ways" with the European Union if necessary when asked about the contents of a European Parliament report on Turkey. ..."
Turkey could leave the EU if necessary, Erdogan warns - The Jerusalem Post A report called for the European Union to explore "a parallel and realistic framework" for its ties with Ankara.
