"The last remaining major nuclear-arms-control treaty between the two countries expires in 2026. At that point, the size of Moscow’s nuclear arsenal and the pace of China’s nuclear buildup would influence the limits on Washington's nuclear forces that the administration might accept, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said. In February, Russia said that it was suspending its participation in the treaty, called New Start, prompting the Biden administration to say it would no longer exchange key data on its strategic forces.
