Amended on 6/17/2023: That Belarus accepted the stationing of Russian tactical nuclear weapons is not a good argument either.
Usually, highly respect the opinions of Michael Rubin! Here, I have to vehemently disagree! This sounds too much like dangerous talk of a talking head!
The Russo-Ukrainian War is already a World War III by any other name. We may hope and pray that this war does not get further out of hand and e.g spreads beyond the borders of the Ukraine or Russia!
To add fuel to or to escalate this WW III beyond what is already done, would be very hazardous! It would also be a dangerous precedent for future armed conflicts. So far only two nuclear weapons were ever detonated and they were used against two cities in Japan to end WW II! This was a success, but there is no guarantee for future success! Let's try to keep it that way!
It is bad enough that more and more countries work on nuclear weapons programs!
The argument that "... Putin is desperate and erratic. ... that Putin abides by no redlines. ... the threat that Russia might use tactical nuclear weapons is increasingly a likelihood ..." is not convincing! Sorry!
