Politics/ideology and science please don't mix! The American Association for the Advancement of Science does not thinks so! The use of jargon here by the AAAS is disturbing!
Sex is not only determined at birth! What a nonsense!
Children or human individuals are not people!
It also appears that this study is only stating the obvious! Since sex/gender does affect behavior/thinking/consciousness etc. it must also be reflected in the brain.
"... People [???] are typically assigned “male” or “female” as their sex at birth, although the medical establishment in recent years has begun to acknowledge that sex doesn’t always fall neatly into binary categories. ..."

"Sex and gender are associated with human behavior throughout the life span and across health and disease, but whether they are associated with similar or distinct neural phenotypes is unknown. Here, we demonstrate that, in children, sex and gender are uniquely reflected in the intrinsic functional connectivity of the brain. Somatomotor, visual, control, and limbic networks are preferentially associated with sex, while network correlates of gender are more distributed throughout the cortex. These results suggest that sex and gender are irreducible to one another not only in society but also in biology."
