If this research is not done in the U.S. or other Western countries it will be done elsewhere anyway e.g. for military or other sinister purposes. E.g. at the Wuhan Institute of Virology financed and supported by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (under Anthony Fauci) in circumvention of U.S. regulations.

The lab leak hypothesis with respect to the SARS-CoV-2 virus cannot be dismissed and it is still very plausible!
