The population of Russia has continued shrinking and ageing. Emigration has accelerated since the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war, especially young, well educated Russians are leaving. Mostly Muslim ethnic minorities in Russia are growing. The mortality rates due to alcoholism, injuries, and accidents are significantly above normal and worse than in low income countries.
The author also points out that the innovative and technological performance of Russia since the end of the Soviet Union has been more reminiscent of a low income country!
