Consequences Of A Pandemic During An U.S. Presidential Election Year

Posted: 4/1/2020

Caution, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke!

The U.S. presidential election is perhaps one of the most watched and consequential events in world politics since about President Theodore Roosevelt!

President Trump cannot be happier that the coronavirus turned into a global pandemic now affecting the U.S. with more than 20% of all officially confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide. Unfortunately, we have to assume that President Trump exploited the pandemic to his advantage to clinch the reelection by imposing largely exaggerated Draconian measures to shut down the economy. Thereby, also conveniently shuttering the election campaign of his Dimocratic Party contender!

This partially government manufactured crisis probably has the same impact as e.g. World War II or assassination of JFK. The incumbent president has a very high chance of being reelected unless the incumbent makes huge mistakes. The current challenger, i.e. Joseph Biden, is no match! Biden’s campaign has imploded in the meantime or Biden himself has become a yet to be confirmed victim of COVID-19.
