Has this information intentionally been leaked to the news media to encourage more self deportation?
There is little doubt that many immigrants try to abuse generous asylum rights of Western countries. Germany would be another good example.
If I am not mistaken, then, in particular, asylum rights were strengthened in Western countries in the aftermath of WW II (e.g. Holocaust) and during the Cold War (e.g. politically persecuted).
