As of very recently, I get prompted all the time to enter a password or biometrics to access Google Play Store on my new Samsung android phone.
Very annoying! I have never purchased anything through Google Play! However, from time to time I like to install new, free apps or update apps etc.
For many years Google Play used to be accessible without authentication!
