Record low major rivers and lakes of summer 2026 news (Danube river, Rhine river, Lake Mead and so on)

There has been quite a bit news reporting about receding waterways and lakes/reservoirs etc. lately this summer 2026.

Take it as largely alarmism and hysteria or journalistic sensationalism. How lazy are journalists?

Some questions to ask about it:

1. How much of this decline is due to human diversion of water for drinking, agriculture, industry etc.?
2. How much of this decline is due to seasonal variation, other natural phenomenons, urbanization, population growth and how much due to climate change?
3. How fast and how much will these declines be reversed in coming months?
4. Are there other major rivers and lakes not affected by decline? Which ones and why? I bet there such rivers and lakes around the world.
