This seems to be a late obsession of conservatives in the US! A End of the Cold War remorse or hangover?
What if the Communist Party of China is replaced in the near future with a pluralistic, multi-party democracy? From rivalry to competition and cooperation? Don't count on it! China moves/progresses very slowly!
What if Taiwan offers reunification for a more democratic China? That would be the German reunification in reverse (the Berlin Wall fell and socialism spread all over Germany after unification).
