"A drug-trafficking gang helped steal more than 3.2 tons of gold in a scam so perfect that it’s still going.
Illegal miners are plundering one of the biggest mother lodes of gold in Latin America after gunmen seized 30 miles of tunnels from Chinese mining giant Zijin. The gang provides the trespassers access, protection and equipment in exchange for a cut of the loot. Zijin estimated that last year’s loss was equal to 38% of the Colombian mine’s total production."
