A Border Wall Going Up between Haiti and the Dominican Republic

Who said border walls don't work?

This also begs the question why is the Dominican Republic more successful then Haiti? One answer is tourism (over 10 million visitors in 2023). E.g. "The Dominican Republic is ranked 65th out of the world's major economies, based on its 2022 GDP of $10,111 per capita. It is also the ninth largest economy in Latin America"

"This is the latest phase in centuries of bitter division on the shared Caribbean island of Hispaniola. The 250-mile, $120 million barrier is meant to block human smugglers and criminals from crossing the border, according to Dominican President Luis Abinader, who signed off on construction plans three years ago. Beyond complaints from human rights and religious groups, there is little opposition."

"The Dominican Republic is speeding up work on a wall along the 250-mile border cutting across the interior of the island."
